Should've ridden from BR to Patterson to join you. We make this ride once or twice a year, usually staying in Maggie Valley. Instead of enduring a boring ride up some Interstate through Birmingham, we've been hitting the Trace to Tupelo, then 64 across southern TN. It's further by 100 miles, but a much nicer ride. Next time you go to NC don't miss the Cherahala Skyway, which connects Telico Plains, TN and Robbinsville, NC. One of the best rides anywhere (~35 miles), but isn't on all maps, including the HOG atlas. We discovered it in 1998 on our first ride to that area and it had just opened. Saw three vehicles on the entire ride, which was surreal. Now it is a very popular ride for bikes.

If you haven't ridden it, go to Killboy.com and read his tutorial for riding the dragon. It includes some good common sense things to remember. He also shoots pictures on the dragon and for a modest fee will sell you your picture. Go to his site the next week and there it will be , probably in the cruisers section.
remember you won't ever be the fastest, so don't try. Stay to the righ t side of your lane , don't cross the yellow and watch ouot for crotch rockets who will blast past you at any time or place.
Enjoy, post pics and tell us aboput your ride, but most of all be safe.
