Monkey Bagger Bars with Pics (Install)
Oh I agree 100%. I bought a set of his bars and my blood pressure was probably borderline lethal by the time I finished internally wiring and install them. haha
I did a set of Z apes from Road6Customs for my Nightster. Dont know that I want to try that again. Trying to decide if I want to shell out the dough on the Monkey bars. Like em just not sure how much yet.
Getting the TBW to go too is a major PITA have to pull the wires for the controls almost all the way minus about 8 inches then pull the TBW and the controls the rest of the way.
Just received the Jan 2010 issue of American Bagger and in the Tech section is a complete picture by picture of Yaffe's Monkey Bagger bars install...Just a FYI. Pretty decent write up actually but they are putting them on a RG instead of a bat winged bike.
Everything does fit, and I don't see why heated grips wouldn't fit as well. If you are going to do them, you better do the 'em with the rest of the install 'cause you ain't going to go back and do a heated grip afterwards.
And I am still putting together some install notes for you guys. I just can't seem to get everything together. Work really keeps me busy for me this time of year. But it's coming.... Soon.

I just started receiving American Bagger this year. I'm sure the install is a little different but worth to information, thanks!

To all,
I ordered the bars from Phatperformanceparts.com I got them from them for the cheapest price, and because they were the only supplier that actually had them on the shelf. Everyone else wanted to drop ship them from Yaffe, which had them on backorder.
The brakeline and the clutch cable I got from Yaffe, but I wouldn't recommend ordering from him. His parts guy gave me the run around, and didn't have what he said he had. Long story, but I was really really unhappy with the whole process and the parts he sent. I did find that Johnny Vaughn ( johnnyvaughn.com ) was awesome to deal with, he knows his stuff on apes, and like phat, he has everything in stock.
As for the wire extensions, Paul said himself, that the 12'' bars didn't need extensions and that you could reroute the harness' to fit. And I guess you could do that, but it wasn't going to be pretty, and the 12'' extensions did work very nicely. I thought I would get away with the 8'' extensions because that is what I needed for the cables, but it took the 12's to really work well. There are two different wiring kits you will need from him, a right and a left. And they are specific to year and options (radio, cruise, CB, etc). You can call him to make sure that you get the right part numbers. He's a weird guy, and seems a little disgruntled, but very nice and he'll get you the right part numbers. When you get the two packages, just dump all the wires out together. I was working one side at a time and was pretty pissed because the color codes of the wires didn't match, but between the two of them, I had them all. The Novello kit also has the factory pins, so they click together and heat shrink holds them together without all the cutting and soldering.
Other things that you'll need, 5 or 6' of 1/2'' heat shrink, heat gun (or torch type cigarette lighter), silicone spray, or silicone jelly found at a pool supply, and some sort of tough but malleable pull wire. That is about all I can think of.
Oh, the clutch cable was +8''. It works well with the adjustment centered, but it does ride right on top of my crash bar inside the rubber boot, but if you are really picky, order one with the adjustment 6'' closer to the clutch end. The brakeline I did with bulk tubing and Russell ferrell type fittings. It was a big mystery if it would work or not with ABS so I did it anyway, and it works fine.
I am just about done with the install tips. I am going through the .pdf from Yaffe by steps and should be done tomorrow night for all that wanted it. Again, I will be emailing these out because of the attachment.
