Default Technical gas gauge question???

My 01 RK is maxed out in the Willie G. theme with everything HD makes and a couple they do not make. One thing I would love to have is the WG gas gauge with the LED level indicator. I have asked about this at a couple dealers and they did not think it was doable as it is designed for fuel injected machines. Does anyone know if this can be done, with or without the LED's being functional? If you have suggestions please provide as much detail as possible. Now for my usual closing line when I am asking for help....

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation.

Sorry but I think most are stunned you're will to put a WG part on your bike and don't seem to mind if it does what it's supposed to(the LEDs lighting up/down as gas is used).

You already have a stock gas gauge on your bike that is subject to being wrong and you want to replacec it with a part that could also be wrong?.

But that's just me.

If I remember right the 99-01's are wired with only 2 wires and the later are wired wth 3. I installed an '04 tank on my '99 and had to add the 3rd wire to use the '04 gauge, but I dont remember what the location of the new wire is. If you look at the wiring diagrams for the 2 years it will be easy to see where the new wire goes, I just dont have them here!

There is nothing wrong with my stock gas gauge. I just WANT the WG!!! I have seen much more difficult questions answered here and would very much like the WG guage to work as it is designed to but know how far my bike can go on a tank of gas. I have NEVER, on any vehicle NOT reset my trip after filling up. Just **** that way. I just figured with all the knowledge on this forum someone would surely be able to tell me if this is something that can be done. I would probably have an Indy do the job but would want to provide as much information as posssible.

There are other LED ones in the touring parts that will work........ but I don't trust the Harley gauge at all. I had it checked at the dealer and was ok. Six months later was touring and the light did not come on at 175 miles. So when I fueled up it used 4.4 gals. So now I just fuel up around that many miles.

To answer your question, check out the HD website or call a few more dealers to verify it will work. It is made for both carb & efi models. I know when I did mine on my dyna, the fuel gauge came with a extra gray wire in the kit. I didn't have to use it and asked my dealer about it and they said it was added for older models. If you don't really care if it works or not, switching it out is cake. Just diconnect the fuel gauge and pull it straight up and push the WG one in. But at $150 for the fuel gauge, I would try and use another WG skull gas cap.

Thanks red devil. The WG with the LED's is the only one I am aware of. I don't really care about the LED's but if there is another that will match my WG fuel cap that would be great. Any more help??? Can I presume the service manual has instructions for replacing the fuel guage? I do not recall seeing it. Just found it in the manual.
