BTW, What's up here?...Are those breakouts?

Yes, those are breakouts. The wheels are hollow castings, to reduce their weight and save metal, and those holes go into the void between the stud holes. The spokes are also hollow.

I have actually changed everything! I now have a Deuce rear wheel which I have written about in another thread here. Since then I have changed the rotor to a floating EBC, to match my Brembo caliper. Suppose I ought to update that thread.....

Really what I was saying...

If there are are breakouts or areas open to the interior of the hub that when used with a rotor that allows "rain and road muck" to get in there, they should really be sealed. Could be like this.

But a lot of the OEM wheels have blind pockets and are not open to the inside so when using those with the same rotor a person has a choice whether to seal or not

The recesses in your top photo are not a problem and don't need any filling, although your photo in the other thread, with two breakouts, would IMHO. With my Deuce wheel I used two shim discs, which are a Harley accessory, as detailed above. The hollow inside that wheel could take a couple of quarts of water, at a guess!
