I dont understand the theory behind apes. I have an ultra classic and a Fatboy and have never considered apes. To ride with these things looks so uncomfortable.
I dont know am I missing something here? Riding in comfort seems to be the way especially on long runs.
Any feedback about the advantage of ape bars would be appreciated.
Why bother to ask you will not understand the explanation.Bottom line, is we all have different ideas of what looks cool. This site alone will educate you on how many different styles we all have.
I ran 10" mini apes on my sporty. No more *sharp* pain between my shoulder blades.
Purchased my 06 RG around Aug. last year. Put on around 3000 miles before the snow flew. Same problem as my Sporty with stock bars. *Sharp* pain developes on longer rides.
Was looking at apes and decided on the Khrome Werks +2 Sweepers. Moved the bars up 2" and back 2". Rode it finally for an hour. REALLY comfortable compared to stock. Also much better leverage and handling.
there is a reason they are illegal in most states. if you cannot make tight turns in a parking lot without removing a hand from the bar, they are too tall. a doctor will tell you your hands shouldn't be higher than your heart for extended periods. i see riders at traffic stops shaking the feeling back into their hands a lot.

if you remove a hand from the bar, you're not gonna make a tight turn no matter what bars you have.
as for the "hands above your heart" thing. is your brain located above your heart? if your heart had a problem pumping uphill you'd have been dead a long time ago.
