i have 2100 on my 2010 street glide and it runs great and i rod the crap out of it.Putting 103 stage III kit, vance and hines 2into1 high output pro pipe,SE breather and dan vance heads on it Thursday. Should give me some more go.Using SE for warranty reasons only.
IIRC, that's called the B+ connector, it doesn't plug into anything. When I asked a tech friend that works in Milwaukee he said it was hot and unswitched and could be used for heated gear. I don't know about that or what it was actually designed for.
I had a compensator sprocket replaced at the 1k that was making some noise, replaced under warranty and I paid the difference to upgrade to the SE comp.

My 2010 Road king, 500 miles is making that noise too. The dealer and HD rep both said it's "normal"... my a s s ! Only does it when I let off the throttle and hit the rear brake. Loud as hell! Sounds like someone is kicking my kick stand up under the bike. Your idea might be a solution if I can't get the dealer to do something about it... sucks though.
Yeah mines got a problem 2010 ultra unlimited sittin at the dealer waiting to be assembled for a week now. damn place is really busy. I'm gonna miss the road king
Rode my Ultra out the dealers door 400 miles to my home in Salt Lake. Wore my wife ski jacket it was so cold. Stuffed my socks in my pants and took off. Had to borrow a helmet form the dealer. You can probably tell I was not planning on buying a bike that day. But sure glad I did. The Ultra's in and the RK Customs out.
According to American Rider Magazine, the excess heat caused by the cat on the 2-into-1 exhaust on the Road Glide and Street Glide can cause a brown discoloration about half way back on the muffler. I didn't have mine on long enough to have that happen but I am interrested to see if that becomes a problem for those who are keeping their exhaust stock.
My 2010 FLHX has 9K miles on it. The exhaust is still OEM and the bike is in Alabama. This will be the second summer for it (purchased in July 09) so it has seen plenty of high ambient temps. I see no signs of discoloration on the muffler or the heat shields. As for the heat coming off the CAT, I don't find it to be a problem. It is not as bad as the heat I experienced on my 2007 FLHTCU even after getting rid of the crossover pipe and adding a PC3. When I change the exhaust it will be for cosmetic reasons (prefer split exhaust) not because of heat issues.
Regarding the OP's question, I have had zero problems with the bike. I took it on a 6K mile roadtrip shortly after purchase and it performed perfectly in the mountains, deserts, cities, etc. I am finding it very easy to postpone doing any of mods I usually do to my bikes. I think HD did a good job from 2008 to 2010 making incremental improvements to the touring platform. Tell your friend he can buy with confidence.
