Is that what that smell is?..kinda smells like hot antifreez? Got 285 miles on mine right now...glad to see the heat issues reduce the more you ride the bike...I assume that's the ECU still adjusting to the riding "style"..Other than that the bike is pure joy and a pleasure to ride each and every time...coming off Jap and Italian makes, theres no substitute for the "Genuine" article...

You live in Alaska, what do you expect?

2010 RGC. I suspect I have a failed lifter or two. Rattles like crazy right at 1800, 2200, 2800, and 3200 RPM. Does not in between those RPMs.
Bike surges at low RPM, like in first gear in traffic. Plan to take the bike in maybe today if I can get some time off. Will let everyone know whats up later.

Pretty sure this one of those isolated incidents. I've had 6 Harleys...first to do this. No biggie, Bike is awesome otherwise.

So far it has been OK.

I did have 2 motor mounts and a stabilizer replaced under warranty. There is a harsh vibration that I get in the upper RPM range of any gear. It is being tracked down and I am confident it will be resolved.

<<<snip>>>.
Toypuller, much appreciated if you would please provide info when/if issue resolved. I have a vibe problem wih my 09 FLHTCU and after extensive testing and comms with Milwaukee, the dealer answer was "They all do that"..
Mine is related to vibration during rear pedal braking on decel in gear.

Thanks!

2010 fltrx...
1) rear fender had fisheyes in paint (im a painter, i know what they truely are)
2) inner fairing had a 2x4 inch piece of paint missing, im assuming from the shipping tape
3) left saddle bag latch wouldnt stay closed
4) throttle was too tight, would continue to accelerate with hand off throttle when cold
5) .006 runout on crank with 980 miles. mechanic wouldnt install cams with that kind of play... harley changed specs on crank runout from .004 in 2008 to .006 in 2009 to .012 in 2010. HD mechanic told me they are hoping customers dont ride the bikes too much the first 2 years and the crank will go out after warranty is up

so had complete rebuild done (i want security and piece of mind and not have wonder if the cranks gonna fail) and should be picking up bike tomorrow...

AND STILL only have under 1000 miles on the bike.. i have no idea what else will fail

I hope your situation is the exception and not the rule. If I have those kind of problems with my 2010 EGC then HD finance can pick up my bike at the dealer and shove it up somebody's A$$ in Milwaukee. All these years I wanted a Harley and couldn't afford it until now and then I hear stories like this. I really hope I made the right decision. By the way I have screwed up paint on my front fender and a new one is on order. Security system also failed and scratches in the saddlebags. I also see a flaw in the paint on the tank but I don't think I will even mention it since I'm the only one that will ever notice it. I'm at 500 miles.

It is not as bad as the heat I experienced on my 2007 FLHTCU even after getting rid of the crossover pipe and adding a PC3. When I change the exhaust it will be for cosmetic reasons (prefer split exhaust) not because of heat issues.

Regarding the OP's question, I have had zero problems with the bike. I took it on a 6K mile roadtrip shortly after purchase and it performed perfectly in the mountains, deserts, cities, etc. I am finding it very easy to postpone doing any of mods I usually do to my bikes. I think HD did a good job from 2008 to 2010 making incremental improvements to the touring platform. Tell your friend he can buy with confidence.
I agree. My '10 was no hotter than any '08 I've ridden (and I've ridden a bunch of California rentals).

I've got 6400 hard miles, no issues.

My buddy has snapped two belts on his '09 in 2500 miles, but excessive burnouts with a small Harley belt will do that...

my mechanic has kept records of the crank from 2008 on...
2008 models... 3 out of 7 cranks were bad
2009 models... 7 out of 8 cranks were bad (with the other failing just a few weeks ago)
2010 models... 2 out of 2 cranks were bad

a different 2008 customer of his had 3 bad cranks and harley fixed em, and he is out of warranty now and his 3 crank went bad and is now doing the same thing i did, rebuilding with S&S crank
