I have the switch set to +3... I did play with it from +3 to 0 to -3 while sitting in my garage and didn't notice any difference in any position. According to the install guide there is a black expansion plug to power the rears "if you purchase hogtunes for the rear later". I already have my 2005 version of the hogtunes in the rear pods, so I didn't do anything with the rear speakers so they are not using the amp. Now that I type this I assume that I could have plugged the rears into the amp expansion slot also... I'll have to check with PEZ on that. The good news is this, I took a quick ride today and sure enough with the engine on and riding you don't notice the hiss. If I was going to use the stereo while not riding the hiss might be more of an issue. Considering that these two speakers and amp are around 340.00 it's a bargain compared to Hawg Wired (although I haven't heard there 2 speaker and amp system). I would assume that for the significant price difference there's be no hiss. But again, didn't notice it while riding.
I'll check with PEZ anyway and also find out about powering the rears (older version of the speakers) with the amp.

Dont think that will work. His older rear speakers where matched (ohms wise) to the head unit. Which is why when you buy a 2 speaker ultrasound (to add rear pods if you don't have them) you move the front speakers to the rear pods, and use the new speaker in front, connected to the amp.
Cant remember how it works if you use all 4 of his newer speakers, but Im pretty sure it still uses the amp for the front ones, and the head unit for the rear.
You shouldn't hear any hiss at all with that setup-- same as mine and no hiss or white noise for me. (I do have another unrelated issue with headsets).
As others suggested, start at the battery connection and work backwards checking all connections against the instructions.
The changeable 3 way switch on the side of the amp is a "gain" switch that changes volume levels between the front and rear speakers.
PEZ of Hogtunes tells me that the system is designed to be set on "+3" but it's a matter of preference as to how you want to balance the volume differential between the front and rear for the initial setup which is unrelated to your problem.
I would let a mobile audio shop listen to it. It may be the case that you need a "Ground Loop Isolator" (noise eliminator).
Your local shop whould be able to help you with this.
