I've got PCV with fuelmoto map...tw6-6 cams and the rest in my signature....the heat on the right leg is gone with the cat gone....I'm pleased with that....but hot weather performance drop is worse than before....don't get me wrong the bike is more powerful all around...but the difference in hot and cool is more dramatic..and when I twist the throttle I get a single ping and it squats and makes more noise than power to the rear wheel...it doesn't like full throttle if I ease on the throttle it seems to work better....when I go to full throttle it feels like something is slipping......the engine is a lot more noisy now when hot.....I've talked to the local dyno guru who road the bike and looked at the map on my PCV sent by fuelmoto and says he can fix it....so it's going in for dyno on tuesday.....all in all riding the bike stock was more of a pleasant experience.....with a lot less drama....hopefully that'll be fixed on tuesday

This is very interesting. Please post us know what the new performance will be like.
I am waiting!
Thanks much in advanced
Very interesting discussion here. I have been told that with the advent of the 96 that HD has programmed the ECM to back out timing when the engine temp hits 235 or so. This as shown on the dyno can result in substantial power loss. Get it hot in altitude and you have an even more noticeable power loss. I had theorized that remapping fuel and eliminating the cat would keep the motor from getting to that point as often. I don't think the ETMS has much to do with power loss. You can cut this feature off if you want but I believe the motor must not be running in order to accomplish this.
I don't know of any way to override the timing retard feature with either the SERT or the PCV. If it is there to prevent detonation rather than to primarily reduce emissions then it would seem to be a feature that would be desirable to keep. Otherwise, on a recent trip I seemed to experience some signs of this power loss in high gear, the simple remedy at the time was to downshift. I don't see this as something that can be enitirely avoided on an aircooled engine that otherwise meets all emission standards and doesn't have preignition issues in stock trim. My aircooled BMW started pinging with the simple change to a K&N aircleaner element. I couldn't eliminate the pinging and sold the bike. Watercooling may solve the majority of these issues but does not necessarily improve rider comfort. The hottest bikes (temperature wise) that I have ridden have all been watercoolers to include a goldwing!
Had the same problem as HCWFHOG. Right muffler turned yellow at the tip...blue at the cat. Noticed it at around 1200 miles. The bike was sluggish under 2300 rpm. Also, unbelievable heat from right pipe...to the point that my wife could not keep her foot on the peg at low speed or at a stop. Replaced muffler. No hesitation at low rpm, no heat problems, no discoloration. Runs good!
Should be getting my bike back today or tomorrow. Dealer sent the ECM back to the MOCO last week for a special download. Also getting a new right side muffler, so hopefully this will fix the getting hot / losing power problem.
