The fairing vibration is BS. . . . I mean, c'mon, What more can be done to isloate the radio unit from the vibration of the bike?
The vertical fairing brackets were notorious for breaking, which increased the vibration in the HK radios. HD has redesigned the vertical brackets to make them less susceptible to breakage.
Also, the bottom of the HK radio was hitting the riser bolts increasing vibration in the HK radio. HD introduced a new bolt with a shorter head to avoid contact with the radio.
Also, since its introduction in the 2006 model year, the HK has undergone changes to strengthen soldered points to make them less susceptible to breakage from vibration among other changes.
You're right; these bikes vibrate. But HD has taken steps to reduce vibration transmitted to the HK radio, and the radio itself has been changed internally to make it less susceptible to vibration damage.
It means the defect is presenting itself electronically in a way the diagnostics cannot decipher. Cant say if the defect is in the radio or not, depends on the defect.
Have 07 FLHTC with stereo problems. Everything shows on and working but speakers only working intermitantly. Have updated the software and done diagnostic check. Shows SpkA. Is this a switch problem or speaker problem?
I have an 09 Streetglide and my problem is, I have changes the speakers to 6.5's and added a Arc Audio amp, and now it plays for a bit them cuts off, radio stays on music just shuts off, if i turn the radio off/on the music will play again for a few min. When I cycle the radio off/on it's only the radio turning off the amp is wired to ignition switch w/ lights. Hummm help?
Sounds to me like the amp maybe cutting out. Possibly overheating or maybe not receiving enough power. I had a PUNCH amp that used to do that because it would overheat. Had some kind of problem internally and worked fine once I had it repaired.
Last week, I was bugging my trike's tour pack stop lights for an unrelated problem (using a VOM). I don't know if this is related, but the next time I was riding, I noticed that my display was bright red with NO characters displayed whatsoever. The unit works fine, as I remember how to operate each mode without looking at the display. Is there any way to troubleshoot the LCD display failure, other than send the entire unit into my Harley Dealership? I'm a retiired EE, but there's little I can do without having a functional schematic or knowing the SW scheme of the unit. I have been wanting to add SiriusXM, perhaps now would be a good time to switch to a new Sony head (an expensive venture, but with the $40K+ I already have invested in my trike, why not)? Any suggestions on upgrading to a new head? -Thanks in advance!
