This seems like a dumb question but I am looking for ideas.
What do people do to clean their sweaty helmets?
I was thinking of just putting the whole helmet in a bucket of water with some soap and give it a good scuba then rinse and then stuff some paper in to absorb out the water and finally put in front of a fan to dry.
There is some stuff that you spray on and it foams - then you wipe it off and let it air dry. I prefer Fabreeze - spray it on heavy, then let it air dry. You'll be amazed at the results.
Yeah, Febreze works pretty well. I noticed mine the other day when I said "what's that smell?" and it was my helmet...4 years of Texas heat has done a number on it.
Fabreeze or other fabric foaming cleaner would be my recommendation. Some of the newer helmets have snap-out liners so you can wash them and snap them back in. Wear a do-rag or a baseball cap turned backwards under it when it's new and it'll stay fresher and cleaner longer.
I've been cleaning it in the sink with shampoo for over 30 years. Literally dunk it in the sink and rinse under the faucet. If I need to do a really quick cleaning, I just use rubbing alcohol on a wash cloth. Gets the main funk out and dries really quickly.
I dry it after washing in the sink by storing it on it's side over night with a fan on it after towel drying. If it is still a bit wet the next morning, it will dry once you get moving.
