Default Installing new nacelle trim

Has anyone replaced their nacelle trim lately? I bought a new one for my 09 road king and the screw on the front isn't threaded like the one I broke the other day. It looks like a nail. No hardware and no instructions. Can't for the life of me figure out to get it to stay on. I'm going to see if I can just screw a nut down over it without any threads. Any ideas?

Mike

It's soft metal, and "self-threads" when you tighten the nut. I installed a washer between the nut and nacelle to avoid snapping the stud off from over-tightening (like I did the first time...doh!)

That's was I thought. I snapped mine off too. I ended up getting speed nuts and they worked out OK. I may try finding a nut to fit just in case.

i tried installing one on my streetglide and got so frustrated with the gap and also the mounting method that i gave up and gave the part to a friend who has a roadking. i then looked at how the softail headlight trim ring mounts. wishing that our touring harleys mounted that easily.

The OP is referring to the "spear" that installs on top of the nacelle, but the rim ring is equally frustrating. I've installed a couple on two different RK's, and sometimes they line up great, while other times they leave a huge gap.
