I understand the noise problem for some. I was responding to Longsnowsm's post about buying an extended warranty. If guys have a lot of clatternoise, then I agree, they should be taken care of. If Ithought it would help, I would wait on buying an 08. Ibacked off on the 07's after reading aboutthem,I could wait.
I think H-D is waiting for all you guys who have the 2 year warranty to expire so they can dodge paying for the fix. It's a lot cheaper is you only have to fix those who have the extended warranty, rahter than all of the "clunkers" (which my '07 Road King Classic is the poster child for this issue). I live in DeWitt, MI, (just 20 minutes away from Haslett, MI which is where Baker Drivetrain shop is located) and recently heard that Baker Drivetrain has come out with something called the F6X (the fix for the six). They claim that their helix cut fifth gear is also thicker than the straight cut stock fifth gear. I don't have a clue what it costs. Does anyone else know the cost and if it actually helps?
I was hoping that folks would take advantage of the YouTube public media and the attention that this would get to help put pressure on HD. I really just want to hear just how bad this is, and what to look for.
Anyone going to at least try to get this sound on video? Maybe do a drive by with someone running the video to see if it can be heard from the side of the road in a drive by. I know if it was my bike that was doing this I would be doing everything possible to both document it, and also get the word out. Incriminating video evidence from a league of unhappy owners would speak volumes guys. I hope you take advantage of the chance to get something done. Otherwise I think your left holding the bag with a flawed bike. Good luck.
you mentioned starter being shot. Just returned from ride of 07 ultra experienced started engaging while shifting. had it to the shop 1000 miles ago for same they replaced the starter switch. any input
I've got the extended warranty. Thought it was a good idea on a next generation bike. Mine has clattered since I picked it up August 24, 2006. It now has 14000 miles on it and there have been no changes in sound. I'm running BelRay's heaviest gear lube in the tranny and Amsoil 20-50 in primary and engine because the folks in customer service told me to try it. No change in the noise. I have a stage 1 and slip-ons. No change in the noise. I have spoken with the VP of Quality and Customer service concerning this issue. I quit calling it a problem a long time ago, now to me it's an outstanding issue. Do I think it's going to come apart on me? Hell no! I've ridden it from Texas thru New Mexico to Colorado and back. I don't worry about it stranding me(or throwing me over the handle bars!). Do I want it resolved? Hell yes. Is the IDS the answer? Hell if I know....I expect that they will help out those of us who have filed a complaint with customer service, but we will see. For now, though, I will keep riding it cause 90% of the time it gives me a great big grin (and sometimes a chubby!).
I'm not sure Bill O'Reilly would touch this. I haven't seen him get involved in these types of cases. Now Geraldo????Who knows.

The 08's probably wonthave the audible clatter noise like many of the 07's have, however, they probably wont be built any better, just the clatter noise, or symptoms if you will, most likely will be masked a little better with the IDS, if it works. I doubt seriously that MOCOhas done any mechanical betterments to their lame builttranny, (such as Baker has done with their upgrade of the 6 speed), which is the core of the problem with these 07's. Compare Baker's upgrade with HD's stock tranny and you can see why the HD tranny will not last, to much shifting around in vital areas. Also, MOCO is trying to razzle, dazzle people with new paint schemes, and so called 105th. anniversary modelsfor the 08's. It seems MOCO has an anniversary model scheme up their sleeve every year, especially after shafting their customers the year prior. But I'm sure some sucker will haft toown that 105th. anniversary model, or how about the 106th. anniversary model next year or when ever MOCO needs to bail themselves out of their mess. Anyway, don't get your hopes up with the 08's, try tolook past the shiny paint, and see that nothing has changed.
Everyone should read the latest issue of "AMERICAN IRON"(tranny whine The cause and the fix)
After reading this article i was so disgusted about what might happen after the warrant expired.and if i understand it
right if your planning to add more HP to the motor with even the baker fix no garantee that the tranny will hold.
suck really suck. I came to a 1200 miles trip with the wife and we really enjoy the ride and love the bike.
I HOPE THE MOCO WILL DO SOMETHING TO CORRECT THESE ISSUE.
There are way to many 07 tranny threads to keep up with. Can't we consolidate them some how??
Does anyone know who all on this forum has the clatter/chatter/rocks in a can/bucket of bolts tranny noise? If not anyone want to volunteer to figure it out?
