Hi all. Am new to the HD and this forum, but wanted to share my impressions of the new '11 RG Ultra after a short one week of ownership. Have been riding a Yamaha Road Star Silverado for the last 6 years, wanted to upgrade to a larger touring model. After many test rides...HD was the only way to go.
So....I'll sum it up by saying that I'm very impressed. Very smooth ride, better stability at speed and more solid in low speed manuevers than my Road Star. I know I'm comparing apples and oranges, but just giving you my thoughts.
Didn't like the stock windshield, lots of buffeting (which I expected after doing my research), so I replaced it with an XXL light tint windshield with vent from Clearview shields. Bought a "blemish" shield at a discount (it was shipped immediately), and I cannot for the life of me see the "scratches" that they say the shield had (??). The large shield with recurve keeps all the wind up and over my helmet, am happy with the results. I do not mind looking thru the windshield, so I got the largest one they had. Looks very nice.
Installed the $29.95 wind deflectors today. They did redirect (and reduce) some of the updraft from the fairing, but I also felt more heat from the right side of the bike on my leg. I guess that will be an advantage in cold weather, but I do not plan to have them on in the summer!
My wife loves the bike, more comfortable in all aspects, but I have ordered a tour pak extender to give her some more room.
As I said, compared to other brand touring models available, the Road Glide was exactly what I was looking for.
One more thing....I highly recommend the adjustable backrest, an awsome addition to an already very comfortable touring seat!!
Had a chance to look at Sifularsons, yesterday, and they are a nice bike for sure. That back tire is huge compared to my 08. That merlot is a perty color, and changes at every angle. Of course I'm jealous at all his add ons he's already done too. Surprised how well the new bikes sound, stock, not as quiet as you'd think with all the EPA chatter.
Nice choice, not real familiar with the weather in Arkansas, but hopefully you have some nice weather left this year to rack up the miles. Have some fun and ride safe.
