I am building it myself- but since I am doing it at work, I always have help when I need it. My guys still can't figure out why I am even bothering- but January is usually slow so it gives me something to do in the downtime.
Not that it matters one way or the other really, but I do have an appreciation for anyone who can work on their own bike (or car), no matter what their skill level. As someone else mentioned earlier in the thread, it's one thing to write a check, it's another to do it yourself. I have a couple of friends nearby who I can count on to lend a hand when needed, and I'm also frequently doing the same for them. Even those of us who do it ourselves seldom do it without any help at all. I've been building bikes and hot rods most of my life, and I can't think of a single project that I didn't have some sort of help on.
Ok- this is the last time I acknowledge you because you are one of those ****** that pi$$es on everyone else because you know it all. Book values are just that, book values. In the real world Road Kings are really soft right now, especially pre 09 models. SERK are not immune to the market either, because you either love the gold tiger themed bike or you hate it- and THERE ARE A LOT OF THEM OUT THERE. And, lets see here, most of them were sold to guys that are pretty well off, and a lot of those guys have bought newer CVO's, and maybe these same guys don't want to take the time or effort in selling the old stuff so they will let it go for a song. Are you following me here? Was this bike my first choice? No. Would I have liked to have a classic, ultra or FLHT? Sure. Do most stock baggers have 103's in them stock, plus all the crap? No. Hydraulic clutch, chrome switchgear, lots of stuff you can take off and sell on Ebay? And since you are positive I am not who I say I am I obviously didn't have any takeoff stuff from my past- or any connections for that matter. Ok I am done- sorry guys for the rant.
wow more name calling how old are you and toastman??? its obvious like my 1st post in this thread said go pay for the work on your bike ...you start off YOU are doing the build then its WE and MY PAINTER BLAH BLAH BLAH read all my posts alot of em compliment members for what they have done....but your a phony with a attitude from your 1st post in this thread yea you got busted.... I then WE, don't be mad at me... I didn't make contadictory statements, you did gonna be looking forward to pics of this 1 of a kind custom that nobody builds anything like anymore. the comparison from nada was market values to compare not saying you can get them prices in this economy...but your bike was worth at least $4000 more then a flhtc plus since you were a GM you should be good with numbers..also 2007 flhtp's have the 103 with a 6 speed and can be had for about $11,000 like I said before good luck I really do hope that whoever WE is does a nice job for you sir.
I love the CVOs. My issue is I will still have to spend money to make it exactly what I want (that and I really don't want to drop that much coin at once). Bars, seat, wake up motor, etc... I have really enjoyed working on my bike. Everything fits me perfectly. I know if I sold it I would never get it back but I don't plan on selling it, so I'm good. I have done all of the work myself.
I think that much of this post has been lost in the translation. I understand what the OP is trying to say. Whether it's true or not is a matter of opinion, and its certainly true that opinions are like ******** and everyone's got one. I think it's cool to take an older bike and turn it in to what you want. It will never be a 2011 CVO, but taking an 8 year old bike and building into something more is what he wanted to do. It's perfect middleground between building a one off custom and buying an already built CVO.
CVO or not he obviously got a good deal, and like he said it already has the 103 and extra chrome bits he doesn't have to source. Build the bike, how you want it and keep showing off the stages. I think it's fun to watch a bike evolve.
When it comes to the "I", "we", "us" crap, who cares. If "he's" building a bike with help of the entire shop whats the difference? He is getting it done, making the decisions and heading up the project. Do you really car that much?
leohd- you made your point, appreciate the thread for what it is or move on. I don't remember reading one of your 5,000+ posts that hasn't been some sort of attack or stupid comment. Eat some xanax and enjoy your time on the forum. I'm sure in posting this I've opened myself up for attack from you. I'll help you out- I have less than ~20 posts and I'm a forum newb. Find a post of mine where I wasn't trying help someone out or not contributing to the original reason for the post. I'm not trying to start an internet war, I'm merely saying that when I click on a thread I'd rather not have to skim through 3 pages of whining while looking for actual updates....
