Default Play in handle bars

Hi all;
Great site, but I need a little information. I can move my handle bars about 1/2" front to back....normal?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Regards
Donnie

That's normal. Your risers are mounted in rubber. Here's a picture of the stock rubber bushings compared to neoprene replacements.

yeah, just a little give- they should feel "positive" when cornering etc.

the bushing are there to isolate the hands from vibration, and last for years.

IF you feel the bars are slipping inside the clamp, then it is just a matter of a little more tension on the clamp ( and locktite)

+1 I had a bike or two with bars improperly installed on delivery. There is a particular way to clamp the bars, or they will often work their way loose.

1. Use locktite and torque wrench. Don't trust your ARM.

2. Tighten headlight-side bolts first, and all the way snug so the top clamp touches the bottom clamp.

3. Lastly, tighten the bolts on the rider side to correct torque. The gap in the clamp should be wider towards the driver than the side towards the headlight. This pinches the bar and holds better.

Setup techs at dealers often tighten them the same all around and the bar will come lose. The maint manuals has the directions.
