put the locknuts on the shift rod all the way, then thread the heim joints on. you'll probably have to take the toe shifter lever off and relocate it a spline or two to st it where you want in relation to your boot/toe. adjust the heim joint to get that fine tuning adjustment of your shift pedal. no need to cut and thread anything.....
i put a spacer on the inside of the shaft, moving the lever/shift pedal outward about 3/4''. don't feel quite so 'pigeon toed' when shifting.

If you cut off that shaft there IS no pigeon toe effect - the toe shifter will be in the exact same place as stock.
All you did is move the lever outboard farther exacerbating that pigeon toe thing.

So I ordered some off of the fleabay.
Found some with the bronze insert. Bit more cashola, but like the fact these are self lubricating.

Go out and actually look at your shift levers.
If you do you will observe the toe shifter is inboard leaving the **** on the end in a position that can be reached by the toe of a shoe sans any 'pigeon toe' effect.
If you like having only the toe shifter, as many do, cutting of the remainder of the splined shaft will leave the toe lever in the exact same position as a stock bike while allowing you to keep your foot closer to the primary - no 'pigeon toe' effect there whatsoever.
That 'pigeon toe' effect (very slight) only occurs when you leave the heel shifter on or move the toe shifter outboard.
Very obvious to the naked eye. Check it for yourself (use a tape measure and straight edge if necessary).

Mine are completed and was an easy mod to do. Much firmer shift (feels like). As well a piece of mind that the linkage will not fall off in the middle of nowhere. Which in Idaho , middle of nowhere is easy to do here.
Took about 10 minutes to do.
Did not have to do any adjusting, or moving the teeth on the splines. Perfect size HEIM joints worked great.
