Inginition Switch Housing Busted at the bottom. PLEASE HELP
Gang,
I have a 2011 FLTRX. I am in the process of putting a painted inner fairing and 14" outlaws on. I took the ignition out after I locked forks and now I cant get the forks unlocked. Used a flat tip screwdriver 3/8" wide. It just keeps clicking.....
On top of that I have noticed that the housing for the ignition is busted at the bottom all the way around. I have the parts manaul page 7-48 figure 7-64 #8 switch housing. I need the part number so i can order a new housing.
Tell me how bad I have screwed up this time. Need the forums help on this one.
damn dude...that really sucks *****, but don't worry I'll give you 12,000 for the bike as it sits, just PLEASE don't work on it anymore till I get there to pick up

That's funny right there.
Try Ebay or your local dealers. Get the part # and start calling. Not a biggie. I remember a few weeks ago someone else was trying to find one of those. You might be able to find the whole assembly on Ebay. I am sure they have used the same part # for years.
I just broke the ignition switch assembly housing on my 2011 FLTRU a couple weeks ago while working on my forks (please, don't ask, how it's too damn stupid to put into print). There are really a lot of little parts in there that fall out all over the place when that case splits in half. However, it does make it real easy to get the wire harness out. The service manual says you need a special tool to remove the wire. But not if the housing is busted in half!
In any case, the new part number is 71572-06. It was $57.90 plus tax. I'm in the Atlanta area, and none of the dealers around here had it in stock, but happened to be in Greenville SC one day and the dealer there had one!
