Default Crank going bad

I have a noise in the primary of my 2009 street glide 9600 miles for sometime now. The bike has been documented twice at the dealer with a noise in the primary I have gotten the same answer both times their is no problem every thing is OK. Now the bike is out of warranty, I having been doing some research and thought I would pull the trigger on the SE compensator. I was going to do the job myself but opted not to I brought it my local INDY he checked it out. The crank run out .015 way over spec so now the bike will have the crank trued and welded, we also saw some some scraps wear not sure how it happened yet hear are some pic.

The noise was not all the time, something sunned lose it was a soft noise tap tap tap and if you leaned the bike left or right you could hear it more. I work on elevators and deal with a lot of bearing noises from machines so I hear that bearings go all the time. The noise may have been soft but I knew that something was not right I thought my Harley dealer would check into it more but did not.

Nice....the dealer checks it twice and avoids any work.....then you prove to us that the problem was present......lets hear it for a 20k+ bike that makes wierd noises and dealers who STILL think its ok.

Did you find anything loose in the primary? Just trying to figure the scapes. If you haven't already sent your crank off, Revolution Performance did mine and they did a good job. I chose them because I could send the cases and all. They sent it back set up. Dark Horse does a good job also from what I hear and I'm sure there are many others that do good work. Since you have a mechanic doing the work, set up is not a problem for you. Also, had they fixed it under warranty they would have stuck a stock crank in it and their specs allow .012 runout. You might not have solved anything.

If the problem was documented twice at the dealer while in warranty and nothing done, they have to fix it for you and cover it under warranty. Don't pay for it unless you want the Indy to do it and not the dealer. Of course the dealer won't true and weld it, they'll just replace it.

If more riders knew how bad the cranks scissor in the newer bikes, Harley would be fixing a hell of a lot more cranks than the care to I'm sure.

I found out years ago how easy they are to go out on the 96" so had mine done early.

He has not found anything loose he noted that their was some shavings in the oil. My Indy is a machinist he has a guy that he trust so I will let him do the work. Im also thinking of upgrading the crank to the timken bearing .

Probly would be a PITA to get the dealer to do the work anyway.

Dawg Its sad to say I cant trust the dealers. I have complained to the dealer as well as the survey the Harley sends . I have also complained about this dealer before on this forum.
I know I could go to a different dealer but I chose not to. Like others have said this would be your fault because I have an aftermarket seat on it of I have and aftermarket exhaust on it. I want the bike fixed right at this point and not wait and get the bike in july.
