this is my first top end rebuild and have spent a lot of time in the forum learning from all you guys(priceless by the way) i have a dilema, after getting the whole top end apart on my ultra i discarded all of the old gaskets, now i do not remember which side the (umbrella gasket?) goes on the middle rocker box. i see that there is a spot on each side for one but which side is correct? also i don't understand how the top end get's it's oil? i see the tubular channels coming up through the cylinder but i can't see how it could possibly flow in a vertical way. and being oil pressure very seldom exceeds 20-25lbs and only maybe 5lbs at idle what's up with that?
nokendo, you are right about the umbrellas. The service manual will tell exactly how they go in. I just did mine this spring and I forget, but I do remember that the manual showed me.
This is what happnes when you suffer from CRS (Can't Remember ****)!
umbrellas face up and the foam like piece is down that way the blow by can get out of the motor and the lifters have check valve built in and help push the oil up the hollow push rods along with oil pressure.HOPE THAT MAKES SENSE.
