Here in IN, did my test on my 04 Sportster that I had (rode for years without a license, figured it was time to go legal). At the testing, first guy going through the cones pissed off the tester by mouthing off really bad after he failed the cones. So, tester decided to make sure everybody failed...by taking the offset cones, and moving them closer together. Everybody failed, even the smaller bikes and the crotch rockets.

In IN, you can test immediately afterward on the same day. 5 of us got talking on the side, and decided to retest...everybody else went home to do it another day. 3 of us passed the second round...not sure how though. The top heavy Sportster was a bear, but I won a couple slow crawl contests at bike events, and just decided to slow crawl through it.

Lesson learned....never let license expire to where I have to test again

Back when I took my test (1977).A highway patrol officer followed you in his car.You had to drive around town til he gave you a sign to go back to the station. When you got to a stop sign or light you'd have to be lookin in your mirror to see his blinkers for direction.I'm pretty sure they don't do that any more.

Here in Maryland they would have looked at you and failed you. Last I checked they want you on a smaller bike and they push folks to going to the MSF.

I'm sure they probably don't, but that makes perfect sense. That way they can see how you handle the bike in real world situations.

Take the MSF course...you will learn a lot about things that might not even cross your mind right now plus as others have said, they provide you with a bike usually a Rebel or a Nighthawk or another 250cc bike.....the only guy to fail the class was the guy who had his permit for a year and probably had the most street time of any of us (I had never been on a bike before the class)

Where I live you ride around the block. The DMV dude is outside the front door waiting for you to come back. I guess if you make it back alive, you pass.

Funny, I remember taking my test on an old 360 Honda scrambler. Funny part was only one carb was good so the whole test was done on one of two cylinders. Couldn't get it above 25mph. good luck on your next try.

I got my license three years ago here in Texas and took the course and that substituted for the driving portion of the test if you passed the course. Still had to take a paper test though. Must be pretty easy to pass the course cause I saw one lady in my class that there is no way in hell she should be allowed on a street with a bike but she passed anyway. While trying to do a u-turn in a parking space she was on a scooter and was going so slow she tipped over and hit the ground without even trying to catch herself. After the class started they had to switch her from a honda rebel to the scooter cause she couldn't handle the rebel.

I'm in Michigan also and endorsement was grand fathered in. Sure glad we don't have to be hassled with a yearly test. But, ya'll can have our &^#@!*^&&@damned helmet law if you want!
You ever been down ? I will wear my helmet it saved my life once .. I could have grandfathered in but was too lazy to go to the dmv and get it done so I had to take the test later.. Was a piece of cake but i did it on a Kawasaki sr-650..
