A month or so ago, there was a thread on here showing a mod for moving the tour pack back. I have searched for it, but can't find it. The member used flat stock and drilled holes in it. Does anyone remember the thread?
The thread I am looking for is one on one of the members here that made his own. I think that website is one that is for detachable tour packs. They show 168.00 as a price. If I have to buy one it will be George Anderson's.
Last fall me & a bud were messing around with some flat aluminum stock and decided to see if we could move the tour pack back. In the pictures the strap is longer because we didn't know if 2-1/4" or 4" back was where it would end up at. 2-1/4 is the minimum the way we did it.
2 - 1-1/4"w x 11" L x 1/4"T alum strap
1 - 2"W x 8"L x 3/4"T alum bar. Can also use a chrome or other type spacer for the TP back middle support or none at all - up to you
2 - 1/4-20 x 2-1/2" L bolts, washers & nuts.
Can't remember if any other bolts were longer. Sorry...
We took off the tour pack & measured the hole to hole centers in the support tube. Drilled holes in the the straps (in the centerline) and mounted on the the TP support tube, using the front strap holes and the the TP old front holes in the support tube.
Sit the TP on the straps & with the longer bolts run through the TP second from front holes into the license plate bracket. The back 2 holes should line up.
We ground off part of some washers to use as a spacer between the TP & support tube for the back bolts. The TP bottom is molded to fit around a tube & now it's sitting flat on a strap. I didn't want to crack the TP bottom getting the back bolts too tight.
Drilled a new hole in the bottom of the TP for the last bolt in the back middle of the TP and put in the thicker piece.
The tape measure in the pix is for reference only.
The wife made a cushion to fit in the new gap between the TP & seat, using velcro to hold in place. Also put on adj Kuryakyn foot rest & she's a happy camper.
This does change the center of gravity some and gave me fits until I got used to it.
