A friend had one done at a HD dealer, he said total cost out the door was over $13,000 for his Ultra, but thats the HD dealer doing everything, all he did was drop it off and pick it up.
The reality is there hasn't been much mention of them on HDF of late. Suggests they are all out ridin! Take a look in the Tech Engine section, as there are some good 120R threads in there, but again not recently. An alternative now available is a 124" S&S, which can be had in high and slightly less high CR versions (sort of Sport and Touring versions!).
Yeah, copy that. Guess so... I'd be on the fence between the 120R and the S&S, really like the stock look of the 120R. May be worth it, tho, for the 124". Time will tell...
I dont think you can come close to building a 120 compared to the cost of the crate 120. Either way theres a lot of accessories to buy
I would disagree with that. If I could find the damn spreadsheet I made up that helped me decide I would post it. I built my 120” from the ground up using my Timken cases. I did however have some performance parts in my 98” build I was able to sell for what some guys are getting for their used motors. It ended up be enough of a savings to justify the building it as opposed to buying a crate motor. I ended up with what in my opinion is a better/stronger motor. The only thing I regret is my choice of cams. That is going to be rectified in the future. A big factor is whether or not you can do your own work.
SE crank (plugged/welded/balanced)
Timken bearings/HD lefty on the right
SE110 heads worked by Don Dorfman (Dewey's Heads)
HPI 58mm throttle body w/Doherty intake/Zippers Hi-Flow filter
Dragula 2-1
Kury WT26 gear drive cams
R&R cam plate
10.5 comp
1.75 ratio rockers
TMAX AT
Bandit Sportsman clutch
Had mine installed last summer and already have 12,000 miles on mine trouble free. Not enough real owner having issues with these engines just the "i know a guy" complaints and the one guy posted on that other forum. His didn't even have the billet cam plate or high flow pump which would lead me to think his wasn't a crate 120R. I paid under $9000 for my installed out the door and that was with the Harley tuner because the dealer wouldn't use my power vision.
Seems like the S&S owners come on every 120r thread to bash the harley engines?
More than happy with mine (a true 120R crate owner), not word of mouth from some other guy!
