You can replace the thick rubber gasket on the lid to stop the rattling. Its pretty cheap. Make sure you remove all traces of the old rubber before installing the new one.
Get in the habit of leaving your tourpack unlatched when you are home. It extends the life of the gasket because it won't be compressed all the time.
Thanks for the tip, I wouldn't have thought about replacing the gasket.
From Richmond Hill eh? Funny I was driving home today and was listening to Redneck Mothers by the Good Brothers.
Didnthis mod yesterday after reading this thread. Used a brand new Cobalt drill bit and the whole Kobe took less than an hour. Bought them at the local dealership during the 20% off everything in the store sale last weekend so I only paid $40 for them. These hinges have to be stronger than the sheet metal POS used by the factory! I can't believe I did not do this sooner! If I ever buy another touring bike, it won't leave the show room with out these!
This is one of the only mods I did on my bike that cost under $100 and looked good. Just found another one - a pair of HD inner bags that fit the Road King Leather Saddlebags - a deal for under $60.00 Cdn - wow, I was impressed to the point I gave them as a gift to my wife for her Deluxe.
Tourpak hinges....LOL - IMHO the less I notice them, the better.Got more than enough chrome already.Polished my stock hinges, they look good and function well, probably still be there working fine 10 years from now.
You can screw up doing this install if you're not really careful. (and that's all I'm sayin') There are old threads here with different tips on how to get the old hinges off, probably be worth your time to read them.
+1 on that. To me it's not worth it. My stock ones work fine open and close. I've read some stories here on the forums. You can F things up.
For Fathers day I took the time to do this. Sure the other hinges are OK but these are really nice on the bike. Bought a new drill bit and the rivets came off easily. I used an old putty knife to hold down the rubber gasket and keep the drill bit away from it.
