53303-07 is the kit that includes most of everything you will need. The only other issue is that you will have to make some modifications since it is an ultra. Ultrakla$$ic (Darren) has a great thread on making your ultra tour pak detachable and will show you pics and pn#'s of everything else you will need to modify.

Dawg do you know of anyone making aluminum bushings for the front of the detatch kit?
I am ready to do it, but can't find them.

I made my Tour Pak detachable on my 02 Ultra just last summer. I took the kit that Dawg mentioned; the kit for the Classic that includes the mounting points and rack along with the AM/FM patch cable. To make things work with for the Ultra I raided the 09 and newer kit; I ordered the CB patch cables and lighting harness from this kit. This allows the CB cable to be split. I then ordered frame mounting brackets for both the AM/FM and CB antennas. These are the brackets that are used on the Road/Street Glide. This mounting setup is similar to the 09 and newer kits. You will have to double up on the knurled adapter for the antenna cables. Ther is one included in the kit for the Classic; you will just need to get another one for the CB (including the stud and lock washers). If you do a search for some of my posts you should be able to find some pics I posted. The only thing that the dealer had to do was splice the lighting harness in. I found no need to add additional splices for the speakers etc... there is already connections on the bike. Sounds complicated but it really isn't. Good luck.

In addition to the kit referenced by Dawg, get the Detachable Tour-Pak Light Harness kit, p/n 70113-08 ($13.95 list); it's essentially an extension/patch cord that extends the tour pak's light harness outside the tour pak making it easier to disconnect from the bike's tour pak harness. (Not sure why Nell's dealer needed to splice any tour pak lighting electrical wires if this light harness kit had been used.)

Also, if you have the Service Manual for your bike, it will explain how to remove the tour pak which will tell you how to disconnect the tour pak lighting, speaker pod connectors, and passenger headset port.

Another information source are the instructions included with the detachable tour pak kit for '09 and newer Ultras, p/n 53246-09A; just have the parts counter guy at your local HD store print them out for you. It will address tour pak removal, disconnecting the audio and lighting electrical wiring.

If you want to retain the passenger intercom/CB capability, take a look at HD's kit 70032-09; it includes the tour pak lighting harness (which you can use, CB antenna relocation kit (some of which you may be able to use, and the passenger communication port clip). Have the parts guy print out the instructions for this kit and see if it or some of its parts will work for you.

If you aren't interested in retaining CB function while the tour pak is off the bike, you can disregard the CB antenna relocation parts. If you do relocate the CB antenna, bear in mind that the '09 and newer CB installations on Ultras no longer use a loading coil like you have in your tour pak. The CB antenna kits HD sells for Street Glides and Road Glides includes a tuneable mount for the antenna mast. Have the SWR of any relocated antenna checked; excessively high SWR can damage the CB.

Another alternative to the HD CB antenna relocation kits is to use J&M's in-fairing CB antenna. It's fine for group riding.

Also, there are many in-fairing AM/FM antennas available if you don't want to relocate the OEM whip antenna. None work as well as the whip, but they seem to work pretty well in urban areas.

The thread by UltraKla$$ic referenced by Dawg is useful in reducing the volume of harnesses that need to be stored under the seat when the tour pak is removed from the bike.

Good luck with your project.

Carl,

I wish that kit was available when I did mine. That would have saved me a lot of scrounging. jgann, that kit has the light harness and the cables, stud etc... I was referring to. The only thing you won't use is the bracket thatis included. You would need to supplement that bracket with the frame mount bracket I was talking about. I have no need to for the CB when the tour pak is not installed so I don't have the loading mount. I like the fact that everything is used is factory HD. One tip; when the pak hard mount is removed (bolts near the shocks) there is a spacer on each side. I used those spacers to move the antenna brackets out enough to clear the rear detachable mount.

Carl, the reason for the dealer splicing is due to the need to cut the wire harness (bike side main harness) to install the deutsch connector for the light harness. The harness plugs into the tour pack lighting and leaves the female plug outside the tour pak. The male half is installed for the waterproof connection.

jgann, if you have any more in depth questions about what I did shoot me a PM.

Good luck with whatever your choice.
