Default Ordered Clutch Spring 37871-98A

When I bought my 2006 SG the previous owner had installed the Barnett Heavy Duty Clutch spring because of slippage issues with the stock clutch after the engine build. The clutch did not seem bad at the time but after a year I have developed some tendonitis in the elbow from pulling the stiffer clutch (or at least I think that may be part of the issue). The last time the bike was dyno'ed it was right around 100 hp/ 100tq.

After reading quite a few posts I believe the stock clutch spring he replaced was the spring used for the reduced lever pull clutch which became the standard equipment that year. That spring from what I have read was a 300# spring. I am hoping that he went overboard with the Barnett Heavy Duty and I can get away with the 37871-98A spring which was used in big twins prior to '04'. This spring was from what I have read a 330# spring.

Anyone have experience with this lately? Do you think the 37871-98A will hold the clutch on a bike turning 100 / 100 ?

Thanks Dawg! It was actually your posting of the spring numbers and some other comments that led me to try that spring! I am hoping it works out and my elbow gets some relief.

Thanks for the replies. My elbow sure hopes it works out just as well on my bike. I just have to wait for the part to get here now. Kind of surprised the dealership did not carry it in stock. I suppose they sell more of the lighter springs.

Default forgot to mention

write on your old one as soon as it is clean and oil free out of the bike. these things are not marked so if you mix them up you wont be able to tell one fron the other in most cases. the 117kg/f is thinner than the 145kg/f everything else looks the same so mark them if you have more than 1 . even the dealers cant tell them appart once they are out of the package.
