Went for an 80 mile ride yesterday on the RK Classic with the OL on the back. When we got home, she had a nice burn on the inside of her right leg (below the knee). Seems like she just gets too much heat back there. She was wearing Capri pants. I have suggested to her to wear Jeans next time and hopefully she'll do better. It was 95 degrees with a heat index of 108 to add to the engine or exhaust heat she was getting. She's one tough cookie.
Heat got to my OL last week. Passed out from the heat going down 81 into PA.
She didn't complain beforehand... Didn't know anything was wrong until her helmet hit the back of mine.
You have to use caution when hot it can creep up on you without any noticeable symptoms. Staying cool is very hard in the summer then staying warm in cold weather.Proper clothing or some sort of hydration system is the key for surviving the heat stroke.
I felt that heat exhaustion last year at Sturgis coming back from the Badlands. The heat can be a killer. One of my friends that was leading the group I was ready to KILL when he drove past the first gas station. Luckily for him, he stopped at the next one.....
The first thing I did after riding the wife on my bike was buy a set of cat less pipes. After about 50 miles she ask if I would stop. She also was wearing a pair of capri pants and her leg was being cooked. The new pipe did the trick. She laughed because she said I was using her burn as an excuse to buy new pipes. After a 300 mile ride on Saturday in 95 degree heat she thanked me for changing the pipe and said she enjoyed the ride with out all the heat on her leg.
