Harley Rep. idiot
Well, there is an alternative.2 mos.ago traded my '10 Limited in on Mr.Ugly here.Owned the Limited for 16 mos. 26,000 mi.Good touring bike with no problems.I guess after 200,000+ mi. on Harleys I felt a change was due.3400 miles on the Vision, great power, smooth ride, lighting, handling.Bone stock out pulls the Limited with 2 grand worth of exaust, air intake, tuner and dyno tune. Can't throw a whole lot of money at the Vision because Polaris doesn't offer too much in the way of accessories or mods.If there's any truth to Vics. hype won't need them.Dealer has been great, delivered the bike 100 mi. 500 mi.warranty service 1/2 of what Harley charged + actually looked over the Tech's shoulder for 2 1/2 hrs. as he actually did all the work I was charged for.1600 mi. weekend last mo.The Vision is a very comfortable bike to ride,800 mi. a day no problem. The real clincher here Harley dealer said due to high milage, and because all '12 touring bikes were 103'' trade in would be somewhere around 18k on another Harley.Victory gave me 20,090 almost a swap straight across.Cost me less than a 3yr extended warranty.Vics is 5 yr. on the drive train 12 mos. unlimited milage on everything else.

all the parts added may have caused the motor to be damaged ( through heat or mixture problems)
and the tuner may have defeated the rev limiter--- which is set to limit stress on the valvetrain.
or maybe not- but it soon becomes incumbent on the owner to prove where the fault is and the cause, rather than the other way around.
I am very quick to suggest that riders keep their bike "warranty compliant"--- or reversible only mods, and never, never take your bike to the dealer for service with the mods on there--- once info is entered into a data system, it's there for anyone to see.
2.) dealers are separate companies from H-D- I have heard dealers promise that mods installed by them won't void the factory warranty--- but will they put that in writing?
I have a Pal who is at a large dealership, here's his take from an email last year:
" Putting on pipes and air cleaners is a grey area. We've read the fine print on the warranty and it says " installing certain exhaust systems MAY void your warranty", but it doesn't tell you which ones! Go down to your local HD dealer and ask them a bunch of questions. I tell my customers, if you bought the bike here and we installed the parts, we will stand behind your warranty. "

1. The first is your tune and fuel, when I adjusted my timing in certain areas the ticking got a lot better.
2. An open exhaust allows some exhaust gas reverberation to travel all the way back to the exhaust valve causing noise.
3. The rocker arm support plate have larger tolerances built into them for higher temps this causes alot of the rattle and ticking noises use Shovelhead shims to shim between the rocker arm and the support plate the min gap should be about .004" Harley says the max is .025" at .015" they are loud.
4. Last not least is the oil, my bike is the quietest with Dino 360 and Redline 20w-50 winter 20w60 summer it is a time bomb with Amsoil. I currently run Redline. I did all of this and my bike is the quietest I have heard its quieter than my chevy 355 in my Mazda.
We create our own problems with modifications sometime but with the right tech support and trial and error you can get these things resolved. Harley tech are good but not the best when it comes to aftermarket parts and upgrades. Their knowledge is mostly general maintenance and HD parts. As far as the representatives go they are there to sound good and appeal to the customer and at the same time protect the profits of HD and keep them from taking on any additional liability.
