I am in the process of Blacking Out my 08 SG and am thinking of getting the front wheel black chromed.
I found this place out in California and thought I would ask for reviews on the place, and/or suggestions for other companies that do the same thing.
I had a set of wheels black chromed. They looked awesome but, they were so so very easily left with marks(scratches) after any sort of washing or drying. Maybe the process is better now but my wheels looked liked they had been washed and dryed with sandy towels after about 2 months. I took very good care of them and applied whatever wax the shop that I did the swap with told me to use. After the install, I was impressed how good that black chrome looked but it was "fragile".
no info on them, but this quote from their website concerns me:
Due to the nature of the processing, some inclusions (air bubbles and/or fish eyes) may appear on each wheel in the clear coat. These inclusions are normal. Inclusions are not considered to be a defect and do not effect the longevity of the chrome finish.
it is very soft, and actually seems to disappear after a while (I think from rubbing/wiping) love the looks, but its practicality is highly questionable for real world use. I think for a show bike, that would be different. to answer your question, I have no experience with that company
I live about 20 miles from them and used them for chrome work on 2 of my cars, wife's H2 all 5 wheels and my G37s all 4 wheels. It has held up well and still looks like new with a lot of abuse. Good quality work.
I ended up not doing the black because on some of the reasons already stated, mainly I was told they show scratches etc so I went regular chrome.
But if I was looking to do it over I would probably try their " Fusion Coat " process in black, it is supposed to be a lot more durable than black chrome and is a deeper shine and better than powdercoating. And it less $ than chrome.
Not sure if this helps, but based on what I've read about them, and looking at, and calling other companies, I'd use them. I may be sending my wheels there too. They really seem to have their stuff together.
Thanks for all the advice. Maybe I should look at the Fusion Coating. I want something that is going to last. I ride alot, so I don't want something that will be trashed in 6 months.
