Just got my 4" Rineharts today and was wondering if I should install them on my 130 mile bone stock SG and ride it that way or wait till 1k service to go for the V&H dresser duals, PC5 tuner and intake. Would this void any warrenties? Is this a good set up? What do you think ?
do not pull into the dealer for service with a PCV, if they make note of it forget the warranty.
this is complex.
many dealers will promise you that warranties will be in effect if they install the pipes/tuner/air cleaner etc.---get that in writing.
they have no legal grounds to amend the 2 year factory warranty.---should there be a problem and you have a statement in writing, you have recourse.
remember that H-D is one company, the dealer is a completely separate company
if you look at the H-D P&A book or the screaming eagle book, they lay out clearly what mods are warranty compliant and which aren't.
It is up to you to be aware of what you need to do ( or not do, really) to keep the warranty in effect.
I do my own work- if the bike went in for a warranty service, I would restore it to stock condition, air cleaner, mufflers etc.
2.) you could put your mufflers on now if you wanted.
3.) as for the rest, the ness big sucker is a better unit than the screaming eagle- and $117 on ebay from easternpc. you can use this time to figure out what exhaust system you really want, and what tuner.

Adding the slip-ons will only affect the warranty on the exhaust system. If a dealership tried to claim that your mufflers caused your engine to blow up, they are required by law to prove that in order to deny warranty work (see Magnuson-Moss Act). But don't worry about that. Just adding slip-ons won't be an issue in 99% of bikes they're installed on. And even then, XiEDs or a Tuner will solve any issues caused by them.
Slipons by themselves dont require any fuel management devices. Your ECM will adjust. If you do a complete stage 1 (add a hi-flo air cleaner also), you will probably need only a stock HD stage 1 download. If you change headers or do a stage 2 (change the cams also), you will need a fuel management device. There are many, many options for that.
+1...throw the pipes on and go! BTW if you that worried about the warranty leave it stock. I had 500 miles on my 2012 SG and I did Stage 1 & cams. I now have 2,500 on it and will be install a Procharger next weekend. I'm pretty sure my warranty is F@*^ed.
Should I install a tuner if I am just going to go with the slip ons for now or is a tuner a waste until I install a high flow air cleaner?
I think that's going to depend on the individual bike. Most say that slip-ons alone won't require anything. Just ride. I agree with that. See how the bike acts with them for a while.
On mine, I need to add some baffles, or get the XiEDs, as my American Custom slip-ons are causing quite a bit more decel pop than it did with the stock mufflers. I'm going to add their mid-rumble baffles first, and see if that solves the problem. If it doesn't, then I'll get the XiEDs as they are far cheaper than a tuner.
