I am going to install either 14 or 16 inch Chubby's on my 09 RK. Just wanted to know if I need to buy a TBW extension or is there enough slack with the stock wires to do the job?
You can solder/splice to extend. Also if you're doing inter internal wiring... will be MUCH easier to just remove the green connect and add in any length you need.
Depending on the day of the week HD made your bike, you will have one of two fly by wire kits.... Some kits have a cannon plug and some do not. If yours happens to have the Cannon plug disconnect the pins and solder the wires. This will make sure this connection does not come loose during the amazing experience of pulling both control wires and FBW through your bars!!!! Cheers enjoy !

I put 12.5's on mine and didn't need to extend the TBW. I would imagine it would be the same thing for the 14's but for the 16's I'm not sure. Email this guy http://www.hdbikeparts.com/ and he'll answer all your questions. Also you won't need to cut and soder. There's a way to remove the plugs without any cutting. I'll see if I can find the link that shows how
14's on my '11 RK. It's been said that although soldering and splicing the wires for the controls, although tedious, is not a problem for even a novice solderer. It's also been recommended that the TBW NOT be soldered/spliced. This due to the sensitivity of the TBW system and the fact that it works off of measuring resistance. I highly doubt that a proper solder job will add any resistance to the system that would cause a malfunction but I am about the furthest thing from an electrical engineer there is so do your own homework on that.
That said, I ordered the Namz wire extension kits along with a TBW extension kit when I ordered my Chubbys 14's and brake like kits.
It was not fun pulling the wires through but it worked. Some have suggested using fishing line and a buddy/vise to push/pull the wires through. Also so have suggested talcum powder to ease the friction. There is also commercial lube for pulling wire through conduit. I bet that would be messy though.
All BTW ordered from hdbikeparts.com. Tremendous service and had no issues calling for support and talking to a real human. A one stop shop for the entire conversion.

You guys that have the apes on your Road Kings wouldn't happen to have a few pics would ya? How tall are you and where do they place your hands in relation to your shoulders. And thanks for all the replies. It is greatly appreciated. Trying to keep this as simple as possible and not spend any needless cash in the process.
