The red sears jack, over time, will not hold up. Bad hardware, bottle jack not repairable or replaceable. People have had a lot of problems with the red jack. Read the very first post. It tells the tale. After a year, if you have problems, oh well. Nice boat anchor. If you are going with a Sears product, get the yellow jack.
That post is total BS. The bottle jack works just fine & is replaceable.

Everybody I know has the red jack & they work fine, a buddy of mine has six of them in a repair shop & he loves them.

One of his jacks did develop a leak when it was almost three years old. He went to Sears to enquire about buying a new bottle jack & they replaced the entire jack for free.

What makes you think the yellow one would be any better?? As I stated before, I own both the yellow one & the red one & IMHO the red one is a MUCH MUCH better quality unit.

By the way, I totally agree that the J&S jack is really nice but the average joe does not need a $300 jack to lift the bike once or twice a year............

Here we go again huh? I have the yellow jack from Harbor Freight. I think it needs 4 inches, not for sure. It will get almost all the way under my Electra but not quite. I just stand the bike up and push it under with my foot. Works just fine. And yes it is sturdy enough to hold the bike, and I have sat on the bike with it in the air, still stable.
