My wife helped me hold things in place install went fine and work great BUT, I was at a gas station one day pulled up to a pump, got off laid my gloves and sunglasses on the back of the seat, guy comes out and says that pump doesn't work so I swing my leg over to move bike(had the lid latches open) when I stand the bike up glasses fall off. My dumbass move was to try and lean over to pick them up WRONG bike gets heavy lays down lid falls all the way open cable breaks and end up with crack in the tourp pak top front hinge. I nursed it with epoxy but only partly worked so about a month ago I took the lid off put fiberglass mesh and resin on the inside sanded it and painted it with a satin black, inside turned out good and strong and I have one of $30.00 touch up paint kits so I painted the outside doesn't look to bad like a scratch and I replaced the cable with the retractable one.

Got a qoute from Lake Shore......$517 for a color matched bottom with free shipping. Not sure what I'm going to do./quote]
Definitely a sour feeling whenever you hear "strange" noises while wrenching on bike. Sux indeed, but sounds like you got the fix bonded pretty good. @ $517 for one piece is pretty steep - did you cruise eBay? Maybe someone on the forum can help w/their spare bottom (parts wanted)??? If I had one...I'd offer it up...
