My apologies, I got hijacked, detoured, told I was spending too much time in the shop.... Menards had their annual 11% off everything sale along with some closeout prices and the wife and I ended up buying 320 sq ft of engineered flooring.

Friday I pulled carpet, padding, tack strip(ouch) and removing base boards. Then put glued and screwed 1/2" OSB down on top of the older sub flooring.

Saturday we started at 08:00 and gave up at 18:00 a little over 1/2 way through installing the floating floor. Each board has to be edge glued, and there is a cut at the end of each run, which means a walk to the shop every 10 minutes or so to cut two boards.

I'm too old for this kind of crap, my knee's hurt, my back hurts and my hands are swollen up for some reason, and I started in on the whiskey about 3pm yesterday......

I'd much rather be in the shop with a Stogie working on "Cheapskate" believe me!!!

Yeah, when I hit 48, I broke down and bought knee pads for installing flooring. Duh! Should have done that years ago. Great thread.

I'm sure your wife has no idea how important you and your cheapskate project has become. You should inform her that your loyal subjects are waiting your next move to see how we might be of assistance. This may be the biggest project of your life , you currently are over 22,000 views. All others projects should be postponed until further notice so your knees and hands and mind may return to cheapskate status. As for me, I set here lighter in hand waiting to join you in another cigar. I very much enjoy watching your project and will check back daily to see when your real life allows you to come play with us!

Marriage is definitely give and take.

Give wife new hardwood.

Take Batmans new exhaust!

(I, too have found it's better to give, and live to fight another day)

10-4 on that. 1 weekend on a honey do equals 4 weekends in the shop.

I feel for ya.

Coming up on 43...which is ANCIENT in the military.

Having to keep physically in the shape of a 23 year old is TOUGH.

Requires minimum of 3 days/wk at the gym, and watching the waistline EVERY time you put food in the mouth just to keep your job.

Knees are shot, and everything hurts from time to time...just have to suck it up.

retirement in 4 years....can't wait.

I think the key, is to just pace yourself. The floor looks great!

I feel your pain (literally) 25 years in the Coast Guard, 19 years on ships. I've been retired from the Military for 10 years. But not retired from work. I feel everyone of those years afloat every morning.
