Project "Cheapskate"
not sure you caught this in the pic that you have of the CVO bike..
but the "silver" on the front fender of the CVO bike is actually brushed sheet metal, not paint.....
just an FYI..
Well that ain't going to happen, brushed sheet metal that is!!!! Looks nice but I'll be using Harley Brilliant Silver, and instead of black I'm using a Dodge Brilliant Black Pearl.

Then lightly went over it with grey 3M scotchbrite

After the sanding I wiped both sides of the fender down with wax and grease remover, I start wearing blue nitrile gloves at this point to eliminate the chance of oil from my hands contaminating the surface. PPG DX440 or a generic both work well for this. Wipe on with one cloth, then wipe dry with a 2nd clean cloth.

I decided that I would have more sealer than I needed for just the fender so I decided to paint the side covers today also. I had to remove the clear plastic protector that Harley puts on.

And of course it leaves some residue behind, so the best product for removing glue is 3M General Purpose Cleaner. It works great for removing residue after de-badging or after pin-stripe removal.

Next I mixed up a batch of Transtar 6234 Kwik Seal. I really like the Transtar line of primer surfacers and sealers. Less expensive than PPG and does not shrink back like Omni or some other inexpensive products.

Loaded up the little FX100 gun and applied 1 wet coat to the fender and side covers.

Now let them dry for about 30", then I'll apply 3 coats of green and let sit for 60" before I start taping.
