So here is how the rest of the day went. This morning I sprayed sealer on the front fender and the two side covers. Then after about 30" I sprayed 3 coats of Synergy Green on all three items.

Then I waited about 45" and laid on the outline with 3M yellow tape.

Then cover that tape with masking paper and laid on 2 coats of Brilliant Black Pearl.

After 45" I removed the masking paper and tape. Then I used 1/8" 3M Orange vinyl striping tape and carefully overlaid the edge of the Brilliant Black. Followed by Yellow masking tape to create the center diamond. Now into the booth paper it up as before and shoot Brilliant Silver over the two black diamonds.

I forgot to take a masking paper picture. Sorry.

Now that the silver is on and after pulling some tape off there is a only the black in the middle which now gets sprayed with Synergy Green. This will be the 4th color change.

As you can see when all the tape is pulled of the last of which was the 1/8" tape which leaves the thin stripe on the outside. Now time for 4 coats of clear. The reason for so many coats of clear is that you can feel the different levels of paint underneath the clear when it dries, so I will have to sand the clear smooth and buff it back out to get the finish so the color changes are buried in the clear. I might have to shoot another coat or two of clear after sanding. I'll let you know on that.

And while the paint was drying I went ahead and swapped all the instruments back to their proper locations, and checked the color codes against the FSM to make sure all was where they were supposed to be.

And finished repairing one of the standoffs on the outer fairing, using the previous method of melting the ABS together with a soldering iron, but instead of using ABS cement to clean it up, I roughed up the surrounding area and used JB weld to build up a large area so the standoff will resist pulling away from the faring when it is cinched up. Whew long day. Tomorrow maybe get the outer fairing green..

Here is a comparison with the CVO picture I'm modeling after.

Here is what I'm headed for with the outer faring.

But that will not get done in one day, I'm afraid.

That will do!!! I like the smoothed sides....No rivets.

The WD40 just melts the glue without harming the paint. Good luck, ndfrspd
Good tip, thanks.

Looks outstanding!

Thanks for taking the time to take the pics...and posting for us.

Perhaps I missed it....but what did you do to the outer fairing to get it matched up correctly? Did you heat it up?

Batman, what an awesome day you've had in the paint booth. Thank Mrs Batman for giving you the weekend off. "Cheapskate" looks great!!

While I was sitting here looking at your awesome project (sipping on a cold one) I realized how "blah" my bike looks. I thought maybe I might just ship my tank, tins, etc. to you, and in your spare time you could just "spruce" it up a bit. LOL

10-4 use the heat gun to warm the inner up, then pulled them together. I'm sure I'll have to do it again when I put it back together for the last time.

Excellent work Batman. I totally admire your abilities, work ethic, work shop etc, etc.

One thing though, I think your being optimistic if you think there will ever be a last time you're putting the out fairing on.
Just sayin'.

Wally, I agree... I've had my fairing apart so many times, I keep a thread chaser around to make sure I don't screw up the threads again...

I had the batwing off a hundred times, but the sharknose isn't as easy. It takes way more time.
Maybe I just need practice.........
