Default Street Glide owners with Ohlins

GoodAfternoon,

I have been taking Howard's 101 Ohlins shock class this week. Through our discussion and Howard's reccomendations we have narrowed my choice down to the 2-2a or 3-3.

My scales say that I weigh 205 and 95% of my riding is solo and I don't ride around with my *** on fire anymore. My preference would be not to change the height of my SG much higher or lower than it presently is from the factory.

I would appreciate hearing why you installed the 2-2a and not the 3-3 or vice-versa on your Street Glide.

Thank you and I hope that you have a great weekend..!

What price are they wanting for those shocks? I was considering some Ohlins about a year ago and they wanted about $800. I ended up going with the HD premium lows for about half that price. I've put about 3k miles on the HD shocks since and very happy with them.

3-3s here, same height as stock SG shocks while seated on the bike. I chose them based in Howard's recommendation. I'm glad I did because they have the additional tunability over the 2s, and you can really get these things dialed in nicely.

Mr. HOG...I would suggest giving Howard a call about pricing, he has some flexability with forum members.

Thank you for your reply. Just curious why you change from the stock factory shock to what you have now......... Jim

I talked to Howard a while ago when I was looking for shocks and if I had decided to go with the Ohlins from him I would have gone with the 2-2a to keep the bike close to te same height at rest and the 2-2a have more travel than the 2-2 . i think the 3-3 definatly have more adjustability and for a more agressive rider or a different platform they might be a better choice but for my needs if I had gone Ohlin it would have been the 2-2a they are a lot of value for the price.

I ended up going a little less $ route and got Progressive 940 for 459.00 with the ighter springs and am very happy with them, increased travel over the stock shocks and still sits at stock height

Jimmy,

You really can't go wrong with either shock setup. It comes down to how much you want to spend, and how much adjustability you want in the shock. I wouldn't worry about the difference in ride height, I really didn't notice much of a change.

The 2 series is an emulsified shock, the 3 series is a separated shock. On the 3, you can adjust length, preload, and compression/rebound. I believe that the 2 series only has adjustable preload…but don't quote me on that.

I wish I had bought the Ohlins first, instead of going with a set of Progressive 440s in the interim. I have the 3-3 shock now, and the Progressives are not even comparable.

Can't go wrong with the 3-3, Im 5-7 so height was important in my choice as well, but it's not that much difference once you adjust the height on the shocks and then set them up, with me on the bike its the same, and not noticeable when off the bike... 3-3 all the way!!!
