Default Potential Road Glide Ultra audio problem

After doing a lot of research I can't seem to find this potential audio problem discussed anywhere.

My problem is with the HK stereo head unit on the Road Glide ULtra.

What I am trying to accomplish is to install an amplifier (200W...4 X 50W @ 2 ohms) in the fairing to power both the fairing speakers and the lower's speakers (this is to be able to use the Boom Audio speakers for the 2 ohm capability)

And then I would like to install a second amplifier under the tourpak (or in the tourpak or the saddlebags) of the same type to power the tourpak rear speakers and the saddlebag lid speakers. From what I have been able to find out so far is that I would not be able to use the wiring harness as it comes stock or even the other harness that you would be able to get with the audio speaker system that would power the 6 speaker system listed in the HD catalog.

I have a feeling I may have to go with an aftermarket head unit to achieve this...am I right or am I wrong?

Any thoughts?

Dennis

the "2 ohm" format gives less availability when choosing speakers and 50 watts power into a 2 ohm load in maybe 25 -30 watts 4 ohm load...15 20 watts 8 ohm load.

so you can get an idea of how these components are rated.

look into offerings by name vendors for a comprehensive system which will do this for you, using the stock head unit

it would be more than feasible to use a high power 4 channel amp, and run the rear left speakers parallel, rear rt, front left, front right etc.

rather than the 8 channels, you seem to be thinking.

- in other words, the "boom" audio may not be the most flexible selection for what you want to do.

the advice below seems sound & iron cross offers other services that may appeal to you ( rear aux input, display colour etc.)

This is just my thoughts and it worked GREAT for me. If you send your HK radio to Iron Cross and have them put the low level outs in it you will have the ability to still fade front to rear and have each amp ack as either the front or the rear. You can adjust the seperation between the 2 sets of speakers each amp is running with the gain controls on the amp and still be able to fade front to rear. Also when you do this the pre amped hi level outs of the HK head unit are still there to use for a set of tweets or something along those lines too? Just me thoughts, hope it helps

There are a couple of amps that have a 2-channel/4-channel switch; i.e. use two channel inputs and get 4-channel outputs--e.g. Hogtunes and Rockford Fosgate. You can also simply split the speaker level outputs from the HK to supply two amps with the same speaker level inputs.

Said another way, there's no reason to switch to an aftermarket head unit if all you're trying to accomplish is to drive 8 speakers instead of 4.

My current audio project is to mount two RF PBR300x4 amps on the HK head unit to drive 8 6.5" speakers (fairing, fairing lowers, tour pak, and saddlebag lid speakers). Everything works and I'm waiting to get the lids back from the painter.

Thanks guys for the replies. I guess my main problem was that I was trying to do this within the Boom! Audio system limitations using the HK head unit that comes with the bike.

If I can't get that set up to work (designing it now but running into the mentioned problem) I may probably go outside the Boom! Audio world to get what I need to make this work. I was trying to make it a plug and play system but if I have to snip a few connectors...that's the way it may have to be.

If you have any more ideas...keep them coming.

Thanks,

Dennis
