+1 on Redline heavy Shock proof in the tranny solved this annoyance on my "07" . Have seen some local stealership now carrying it on their shelves as well. A Indy I trust also stocks it. Can also be had at local Napa stores for $12.95/qt.
I called REDLINE and was told to be sure to use TRANSMISSION FLUID in the Tranny and not their GEAR OIL for shifting problems. I put Tranny in Tranny and neutral is there with ease and so is the dang clunk most of the time. I can get a quite gear sometime but more clunks than not.
I have the same problem with my 2012 King (300 miles). If I shut off the engine it pops into neutral easily. I've found that if I let out the clutch, slightly, I can also find neutral with the engine running but that's a bit risky. You'd think that HD would notice this issue themselves and address it. If they need to use a better tranny oil, I'm sure they could work out a rebranding deal. That's what all their oils are anyway.
Okay folks, once again, many thanks to all that contributed. Not that my wife likes the idea of me throwing $$$ @ a minor problem, (she already gave me the green light for my engine build), but, since I need a clutch upgrade anyway, have decided on an AIM variable pressure clutch, pressure plate, and spring. I will keep you all posted as events warrant and mods continue....Paradise Lost
After reading all the comments about Redline I think I will give that a try at the upcoming 1k service. I am getting better at finding "N" as I ride more but it is touchy. For me, a light heel tap from 1st gear seems to get it most of the time.

Bob, where is upstate NY for you. I'm in north franklin county.
Mine is loose enough now that if I shift lazily from 1st to 2nd I'll get neutral instead. The current oil combination is Mobil 1 V-twin 20W50 in all 3 holes, it actually is easier to find neutral with this combo than when I had the Redline stuff in the primary and trans. It clunks into gear slightly louder with the Mobil 1 but neutral is super easy to find.
I had that problem on my street bob. It would go right by neutral and in to second. Drove me nuts. I read in the forums that red line shock proof may help the issue so I gave it a shot. Now I would have never expected a fluid change would help but surprisingly enough it did help. Not a single issue since.
I wouldn't have believed it either, but I just switched to Redline last weekend and it does make a significant improvement when trying to find neutral.
Use mobil 1, have heel/toe shifter and maybe I have problem finding neutral 1 out of 50 times. It's hard for me to understand having a heel shifter would make it difficult to find neutral when the shifter is connected by linkage. With a heel/toe shifter, the toe shifter is still functional.
