Bob, where is upstate NY for you. I'm in north franklin county.
North Franklin county really is upstate NY. Upstate NY for me is more like central NY, but upstate relative to the city. I am in southern Herkimer county, east of the city of Utica.
i swapped out the shifter linkage with a stout billet shift rod, that seems to help, my '11 RKC is a nag about N - i will go Amsoil at the near to be 5K service.
I've had the same issue with my '11. I've always run HD synthetic and Formula 1+, but after seeing these posts I may try the Redline products when I hit the 5000 mark.
If you are using the heel shifter, it is common to have neutral be a pain in the ***. Try moving the toe shifter up so you can use it until your tranny gets broken in. It's easier to find neutral with your toe.
Call me crazy, but I had this problem when I first got my bike and after a few hundred miles and understanding the feel I can find neutral as easy now just like my old single days when trying to pop a bra with 1 hand. Dang I got so good at that - probably what impressed my wife and why she married me.
I will say this, my last bike (not an HD) had a huge problem getting the bike to go into neutral and took it into the dealer and they told me that is just how these bikes are. Needless to say, I aint riding that bike no more...
I called REDLINE and was told to be sure to use TRANSMISSION FLUID in the Tranny and not their GEAR OIL for shifting problems. I put Tranny in Tranny and neutral is there with ease and so is the dang clunk most of the time. I can get a quite gear sometime but more clunks than not.
That's weird, this link to their trans fluid says it's the same as their heavy gear oil.
