Default head light

I have a 2000 FLHTCI and my lights and guages are not working all the time. They will work for a few weeks then I will turn the switch on and they won't work for a few days. Anyone have any ideas where to start to look for the problem?

try wiggling the switch.

the contacts in the switch are prone to wear out esp. if high wattage bulbs are used up front.

If wiggling the switch fixes the problem, prepare to change it out

otherwise point the bike at the garage door in the dark and shake the various parts of the bike, looking for a poor wiring connection. you should be able to see if the headlight is affected

check the headlight plug itself and the ground wire- if the plug shows heat damage to the plastic replace it.

that happened to me then it started blowing the fuse, turns out one of the plug ins on the wireing harness under the fairing was corroded, there are 3 plugs under the fairing that do not have rubber gaskets on them 1 is to the instraments, 1 is to the lights and the other is to the turn signal indicators on the dash all 3 of mine have corroded and have given me trouble so now every winter I clean all 3

I'm a newbie from Florida & I'm kinda on the same situation. While riding one nite, I went from high beams to low beams due to traffic, then when I went back to high, my lights went out. nothing but pitch black. Fumbled around & replaced fuse & all is well. While stationary or idle I can switch back & forth with no issue, but accelerating or at highway speed it blows the fuse. To be honest, I replaced a headlight bulb approx. 1 year back. Any ideas?

sounds like what others have said, bad contacts or a short somewhere.
