I strap my 1/2 helmet on a little tighter when I'm gonna hit the highway. I have everything off the ultra except the fairing deflectors and put on a 4" shield for summer.
The fork deflectors is what I am missing. The link says it will not fit the FLHX. That is what I have. Is the one mentioned earlier in this post different. I do want to get some for my bike. My last resort.
KW 8-1/2 and vented lower fairings, nice and calm.
Wind is a full hand width above my head, calm air at the tank.
A properly fitted helmet helps as well, assuming one likes helmets.
Changing air flow with the lowers and changing the differential pressure behind the windshield, with the KW form, solved it for me.
I look over the top of the windshield not through it. Odd at times watching the bugs head straight at me then flip over the top. Rain does the same as well for the most part.
An added benefit of the lowers is reduced leg fatigue on long runs with the air pressure directed around the lowers instead of pushing on my legs.
Why don't you buffeting complainers try a FF helmet, then a taller shield. F*ckin' problem solved for petes sake. Or stop riding on 30mph crosswind days. Whatever.
Then you could go one step further and drive a cage . . . I will never ride a full face, thank you very much.
Fork mounted wind deflectors have been the answer on the last three bat wings I have had
The fork mounted deflectors will make the biggest change in buffeting
8" recurve solved about 20% of the problem. fork baffle is worthless, the adjustable HD fairing deflectors solved 70% of the buffeting. do the math that's 90%. You will NEVER get rid of all of it. I can live with 90% better. Get the deflectors.
I love these threads. It's a friggin motorcycle. You don't want wind in your face, drive a cage. I'm 58 and I just started using a windshield for long rides, and it's a shortened one. You can just keep adding deflectors and screens until it looks like a spaceship or a Goldwing.
What Checkers says is what I found to be the most important issue. Someone told me exactly what he is saying and all buffeting..almost all gone when I did that.. I have a 2010 ultra limited with the vented lowers and the fairing deflectors. I bought it with that chrome front fork air baffle PN#58520-79tc.. When i opened up those deflectors on the fairing it was way worse. On mine I bought a set of black Paughco front fork wind deflectors.. And the Harley chrome set that look exactly like them.. Part#69492-05. They are listed as not fitting any bike with the lowers. I had to bend them forward to get full turning radius.. Takes some patience but really easy... All that said.. My bike is a transformed creature concerning wind with these on the bottom.. However, they may look funky to you on a bike without lowers??? Dont know.. I did not like the chrome look.. Prefered the black..
I am 6'1" but have a long torso.. 33 inseam. Started with the 12 oem shield.. My line of sight was dead on the top line of the shield.. Put an 11" LRS recurve and that worked really good. Didn't like the looks though.. I also had an old 8" X stream shield from them which looks a lot like the Clock Werks shields.. Worked better but didn't like the looks even worse.. I now have the Harley wind splitter shield 10".. It works the best for me with the fork wind deflectors and the fairing deflectors closed. I am really happy with this setup now.. Crosswinds and all.. It's not perfect of course but this is my best equation ..
Those fork deflectors are the same as Racklefratz picture.. Hope I spelt your id right??? Anyway.. I didn't like the chrome look on mine but they loook great on his.. BUT all that said.. They make a huge difference in the calmness.. And BTW.. That windsplitter shield did make the radio a lot better and easier to listen to..

Try www.jescustomaccents.com Joe makes custom fork deflectors for FLHX. I just ordered some for mine and I have the spot/drivings lights with the signal lights hanging below. He has a special design for those including some that will not hit Lower Fairings, which I also have. He is a great guy and will call you to discuss his deflector designs.
