I've found myself wondering the same thing at times, and I think the only reason I do is because there *is* a power switch for it. But the same thing is true of my 2011 pickup - it has a power switch to energize the cruise system. In the truck, cruise is always "off" when I start the truck, and I have to energize it if I want to use it. Once I have done that, I generally leave it on for the rest of that trip.

I really don't know why the manufacturers put those switches on vehicles (same for the "kill switch" - useless as an appendix), but I seriously doubt it's there as a safety factor. I've never heard of a "runaway cruise control" emergency in my life, and there are always multiple ways to cancel cruise control, once it's active.

I never turn mine off. I don't really even see a need for the option to turn it off.

Doesn't matter. Keep it on if you wish.

I use the hell out of my cruise, so the switch is on a the time. I use it anywhere I can to help keep my speed in check.

Trouble lights are red. Why they would make the on light for cruise control red (orange) is baffling. Blue for on and green for engaged would seem to be a better combo. In answer to the question, I prefer to leave it off when not in use. No trouble lights to confuse it with!

I'm pretty sure that mine looks YELLOW-ish, not red.

Haven't turned mine off in over six years. Never thought too. Never an issue.
