From looking at the Security Part# 68200-07a, its just plugs in, does it take that long to marry to the bike. 2.5 hrs. Must be a slow week at the stealership.

The physical install is not that bad.

http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US...ts/-J04082.pdf

NOTE: in some cases you will not be able to start the motorcycle because the security system is in disabled mode until it is married to the ECM.

The marrying part is the hard part if doing it "by hand".

Once you read the instructions.... decide if 2.5 hours labor is out of line

Are you ready for this?

Once you have the parts installed and wires plugged in, you have to marry the TSSM to your bike.

Tssm Marriage
1 Set Run switch to Run

2 Turn Ignition key On-Off-On-Off-On-Off-On and then toggle
the Left Turn Signal switch twice.

3 Turn Ignition key Off-On Verify the Check Engine lamp and Security Lamp illuminate
briefly and then turn off Security lamp will not illuminate on non-security
(TSM) Twin Cam models.

4 Attempt normal start one time. Engine starts and stalls immediately. check engine
lamp stays on. Password has not been learned and sets trouble code P1009, thus stopping fuel
flow.

5 Wait 10 seconds Security Lamp remains lit for V-Rod and TC88 with TSSM. Lamp will not be on for TC88 TSM models. ECM enters Password Learning mode for 10 minutes.
Do Not cycle the ignition or disrupt power.

6 Wait until Security Lamp turns off or a minimum of 10 minutes has passed.

7 Quickly (within 2 seconds) turn Ignition key OFF-ON Security Lamp remains lit for V-Rod and TC88 with TSSM. Lamp will not be on for TC88 TSM models.

8 Wait until Security Lamp turns off or a minimum of 10 minutes has passed. Password Learning mode for 10 minutes. Do Not cycle the
ignition or disrupt power.

9 Quickly (within 2 seconds) turn Ignition key OFF-ON Security Lamp remains lit for V-Rod and TC88 with TSSM. Lamp will not be on for TC88 TSM models.

10 Wait until Security Lamp turns off or a minimum of 10 minutes has passed. Password Learning mode for 10 minutes. Do Not cycle the ignition or disrupt power.

11 Quickly (within 2 seconds) turn Ignition key OFF-ON Security Lamp light and then turn off. Lamp will not be on for TC88 TSM models.

12 Turn Ignition switch OFF. Wait 15 seconds. Turn Ignition switch ON and start engine to confirm the Password Learn Procedure is successful. Engine will start and remain running
If engine immediately stalls and fails to restart the Password Learning mode was not successful. Start over at step 1.

Then, once you get this far, you will have to take your bike and fob to the dealer to get programmed to work together. YOU STILL HAVE TO PAY THE DEALER.

I see your point, lol, Just called another dealer, they said 1.5 hrs, I can live with that! Found the Security online for 260. Hate to sound cheap, just hate paying for it if I can do the work. Thanks for the inlightment.

Totally understand. Just wanted to save you from what a friend went through trying to do it himself.

He ended up paying the dealer to do it............ after he worked on it for 5 hours.

He still has a wrench stuck in the drywall of his garage, where it stuck when he threw it in anger. He left it there as a reminder to not get in over his head on DIY projects

I installed the last one and "married" it to the bike myself. Takes 30 minutes using the instructions above. Hardest part is waiting the time between the steps. You basically can't leave the bike till it's done but is easy to do. Installation of the module is super easy.

The fobs have to be programmed by the HD dealer.

Wow, I've been thinkng about putting one on my bike and the dealer said 1/2 hour labor. Not too bad in my opinion. 2-1/2 sounds like just a bit much.

What about the key fobs? Does the dealer have to do that or is there a way to do that yourself?

The dealer has to program the fobs.
