Worst upgrade you ever made
Made money reselling them, though.
Also, he adjusted the clutch such that the lever effort is WAAAAAAYYYY too high! He is NOT mechanically inclined, although he would like to think he is...so awhile back, he took off the transmission end cover to install a new clutch cable, managed to booger up the cover and strip the threads, and got another one. The clutch lever effort was so high that I thought maybe he got one of the ***** in cockeyed. So I took it apart and rechecked it, no, everything fine, he had managed to foul up the clutch adjustment so bad that it seemed that the cable would break.
So, I adjusted the clutch and cable so everything was working smooth and as light as possible, and the clutch was engaging perfectly...then I rode it again a few weeks later. He had returned the adjustment back to it's formerly adjustment! I asked him why he did that..."I don't knowwwwww." I then asked him if he wanted me to make it right for him again, he said sure, but he hasn't come by yet.
Fine by me, I reckon...but man, it sure makes that sweet scooter a pain to ride...but, if he's happy...
So I went out to Phoenix Bike week with the intention of buying a couple of S&S slip-ons to accompany the header I bought from them last year but sadly they were not there. So after spending all day (WED) looking at different vendors, I found Freedom Performance and fell in love withthe 2-1 turndown pipe. I must say I had not seen it before and I really liked the idea of something just a little different! I asked if I could hear it (they had it installed on a SG with the stock 103) upon hearing it I was sold it was exactly the sound I was looking for.
I discussed price for a few minutes and decided to pull the trigger even with the slightly elevated price tag (as I figure free installation isn’t really free), now on to the fun part. I asked the sales person if they ship the old pipes and he responded yes but, we will have to charge you $50. I then explained that I was local and that it might be possible to come later in the week and pick them up, we discussed the logistics and I was told with several friends present that in the event I could not make it back by 12:00on Sunday (this is when they reload the truck to pull out) that all I had to do was call and make payment arrangements and they would ship them to me.
So Monday morning I sent a text to the number I received my receipt from requesting payment instructions so that I may receive my old pipes,(S&S pipes with SE Street cannons 2016 RGS) which I can only guess are worth a few hundred on CL. I was asked to describe them which instantly concerned me, I explained what they were and received a text stating that they would have to search the truck as they did not believe they made it back from the show. I then called the shop and was told that they did not have them, and it was not their policy to transport old pipes? I was then referred to a manager and was told he is the one who makes decisions, I called and left a message and when HE called me back and I answered he says “yes” (now keep in mind he called me) I found this immediately confrontational, but I plead my case anyway to which he responded yep you did not pick them up so we threw them out (sorry but I find this hard to believe) I explained that I had several people with me who also understood the conversation the way I did. His answer to this was look we can push this but someone may get suspended is this what you want? I told him although I was pissed I did not want to see someone out of work over a couple hundred dollars. I was very angry but decided to let it go.
One week later as I am cleaning my bike, I notice that the exhaust is cracked, well not just cracked it is broken 360 all the way around the weld where the two pipes enter what I think you refer to as the baffle. So I immediately take a picture of it and send it to the same number that text me my receipt and I explain my frustration. As soon as they were open the next morning I called and got in contact with a very nice and professional lady who assured me she had received my text and had placed my information and the pictures on the manager’s desk. I waited most of the day for him to call me back, I then called several times and was given the extreme run around! Finally I was put in contact with a gentlemen who told me that they would replace the pipe but I was out the extra I paid for the install and that they would only be sending the pipe so not only do I have to install them, I have to take the old ones apart, shields, baffle and end cap and reassemble (is this normal?). Then, I was told they did not have that pipe in stock and I would have to wait three weeks for some to come off the assembly line. I explained that this is a new bike, it is riding season and since they threw my old pipes in the garbage that the bikewas useless without pipes. So I then asked if they would be willing to refund my money, to which they replied yes but we would need to charge you a pretty substantial restocking fee (never did get a price) I immediately explained that I would like to speak with one of his superiors and was told, that is not going to happen because that is the owner and he is not interested in hearing complaints from customers and that He already knows that the owner will not waive the restocking fee! They called me back less than five minutes later and said there would be no fee and no return, they found a pipe and are sending it out. (Restocking fee for a pipe that fell apart?)
The pipes arrive and I am immediately pissed off as a friend who doesn’t know they back story comments on a very poor weld on the new pipe. Once upon a time I was a welder (NAVY) and for a short time ASME certified (NY) in stick, tig and mig in pipe and plate in both carbon and stainless steel and I had to agree this is one of the poorest welds I have seen in a finished product. Have I done poorer yes, but I would grind them and re-weld for fear of having one of my welds QC’d. Then as I am removing the old baffle/cone to reinstall on the new pipe, I find that the original assembler cross threaded one of the allen bolts that hold the inner baffle to the pipe and left it like that(out of sight out of mind I guess) will include photos in very near future.
I have purchased from this company before, and I contemplated this post for sometime, however each time I jump on my bike I wonder if my pipe will fail and if it does what will I have to go through toget it replaced, I can’t explain what an unnerving feeling that is.
