Hey everyone,
looking for some assistance. I have a 2005 road king that sways when I get over 50 mph or let of the throttle. Brakeing with the rear also makes it sway pretty bad. I have checked tire pressures 35 front 40 rear. rear shock is at 25 psi. It feels like its coming from the rear of the bike. If I brake with the front when it happens it seems to help. It is getting progressively worse and something that needs to be fixed. I have 25K on the bike. Tires look to be in great shape.
Have you checked your wheel alignment? What brand of tires? Mine are Metzlers and call for more pressure. Swing arm bushing maybe on their way out? Those are a few things that come to my mind. Good luck and let us know what you find!
sorry for the delay. So unfortunately I know little about harleys. How do I check the swing arm bushings. I called my local harley and the guy in parts tells me that it would be the bearings if anything. If I start ripping everything apart is it better to just replace the bearings and bushings. If so, is there a recommend aftermarket brand. I have read several post about the STA-Bo. Thanks for the help.
I bought a motorcycle lift jack to make this easier hopefully.
I had similiar problems at one time, it was the front motor mount was torn, also check the rear rubber mounts. alignment shouldn't be a problem, unless the bike has been wrecked.
I chased the same problem for a few weeks, changing motor mounts (2 rear on swing arm) and front, checked neck bearing and it got progressively worse. Finally found I had 3 rear spokes broken.
the front is visual, the rear are more involved, would required some work, but if you are looking at the bearings on the rear, then you will have to remove the rubber the swing arm to get to the bearings and then the rubber mounts are very asable definatley get a service manual, it will always be helpful
