Default Need Help with My 1996 Road King

I love my Road King and the only gripe I have is its one of those b*st*rd years where your can't find some parts that will fit a 1997 till 08 sometimes. What I want is a good two up seat with a little lower profile than my Mustang. I like the Mustang but with what I've done to her over the years this big seat just doesn't fit the bike profile. Could someone tell me the real difference between a 96 and 97 as far as seat wise. Will later years 97 and up fit my 96. If I have to mod the seat what do I need to do? Has anyone ever put a C&C sport tourer or similar seat on a 96 C&C lists only 97 and up Do you think they would modify one of there seats to fit my 96 King? Thanks for any help

I have a 96, put a Corbin touring seat on it before I took delivery. 165,000 miles later it's still going strong.

I wouldn't know why a 97 seat wouldn't fit a 96 unless there was a frame change that year. I don't know too much about bikes that old.

checking both Mustang and Corbin websites - same seat for 1994 - 1996 , change part number for 97 - 05. So, to answer your question will a 97 and up seat fit a 96, my guess is No. Seats are available for 96 from those 2 manufacturers so betting there are others.

Frame changed in '97.
The '96 and older seats are similar to the current '08 and up seats, in that they use a different mounting nose in the front by the tank. A tab is on the tank on the 08+ seats, and if I recall, it's a tab on the frame for 96.

Sorry, not sure what would be involved in making a newer seat fit without seeing the frame and the seat you want to mod. Know anybody with a '97 to '07 seat you can look at?

Default FHL 96 seats

The FLH frame design changed for 97. The 96 and earlier seats don't fit. From memory, any of the earlier evo FLH seats should fit from around 84 to 96. There must be a million of them lying around over there. The seat off an FLHS (electraglide sport) is the low profile touring seat you may like. This was the model bike the first road king was based off.
