That's what I was saying to myself this morning after I pulled into the parking lot at my office and got off my bike.
My left saddle bag lid was open, completely flipped open. Apparently I didnt close it right last night and didnt notice this morning. 20 mile commute, half back country roads, the other half 70+ mph highway. I thoroughly checked it out after having a slight heart attack followed by the ego-busting feeling. Doesnt seem to be any damage, scratches or anything. Just a hurt ego.
Just thought I'd share and at least get some MORE laughs, ones that I know of, not the ones of the other commuters that I didn't know of.
My right bag latch gets so much use, its actually getting worn and to the point that it doesn't always stay shut. I hate to have to lock the bag all the time to keep it shut. I believe some slight bending of the spring clip corrects this, But I need to scope it out more. I'm glad you did not have any damage associated with it. Not much contact to scratch though other than the latch bumpers area.
I left my tour pack unlatched once and could not figure out where that "thump" was coming from. Every time I hit the small bump, I heard it. I thought I had a bad shock or something. I even pulled over and did a quick inspection of the bike and never even noticed my unlatched latches. I was too focused on the suspension and what was going on under the bike. I finally noticed it when I stopped for gas. As a lesson learned, I always glance in my right rear veiw mirror to check my latches before I pull out.
We've all had those moments, so don't feel too bad about yours.
Been there done that. I had a another guy on a bike ride up next to me to say my bag was open. I am pretty sure it didn't rattle open either. I simply left it open and rode off

Happens but I am amazed you did not try to blame it on some HD latch defect.
Did same thing last year had to have ridden 100 miles with it open
