2009 was a new year for the frame and other components. No cats except for CA bikes, 2010 added cats. I am sure others will add more but 2009 was a major change.
Yes exhaust routing was new for 2009, but the suspension wasn't changed. The frame was changed (machine stamped and not welded anymore), the exhaust was re-routed, and the back tire got wider in 2009.
All other major changes were made a year earlier for the 2008 model year- that is six-gallon tank, Isolated Drive System (or "Cush Drive"), six speed transmission, ABS option, Throttle-By-Wire, Electronic Cruise Control, etc.
that'll get you the dealer docs from the model year introduction - and you can read up on the changes from 2008.
for bonus points, do the same for 2010, 2011 and track other changes.
good reading.
H-D historically goes with minor changes year to year, it is rare that they make a big change, so 2009 will stand out as the previous frame was little changed from 1982
