Bs. I use it every single time on every single bike I ever owned. Kill switch then key off.
Maybe Dawg will jump in.

I never use the kill switch.

sidebar: about a month ago, I bought a new scooter. The service guy pulled it around to the front of the dealership where the sales guy & I were waiting. Sales guy went over a few things on the bike and asked if I had any question, I said "no, I'm good to go". I got on the bike and I couldn't start it - took me a little while to remember to check the kill switch.

My radio seems to only lose the clock settings but retains the memories. My ECM certainly doesn't lose the map I loaded months ago.

Not the map... That's in nvram, but the ecm's adjustments to the map and "history" are wiped if you disconnect the battery.

I only use the kill switch if I'm parking on up hill or down where I have to hold the front brake while bike is running in gear but then turning off the ignition I turn it back on to make it easy to start, but my wife always use the kill switch and every time I've to move it I say some bad words before I start it. On normal surface I always put in neutral turn off the ignition but wife again is opposite .

I always use the key switch...Motorcycles did not have a handlebar run/off switch when I started riding.

Wow. This is a buzzard thread. I always use kill switch, then turn off on/off switch. Gonna have to try just leaving kill switch on. We shall see
